When I see people out on the destroyed streets talking about what happened.... I wonder just how it went down.
Not All people are reliable. Not truly.
Never truly.
Oh! I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself.
My name is Genesis. Yes, a strange name for a strange girl. Fitting no?
I am 10 years old. Yes, 10.
I was born the day it happened, tada! It's only been a few sentences and I've revealed my biggest secret.
How fun. The destruction of the economy, society, and basically everything else happened the minute I was born, don't know why though.
Maybe God thought I was special or something.
Now...... There is no government and no rules to bind us.
So you could actually get away with murder. And that's also a reason to carry a hunter's knife on me.
And because of the situation I'm in.
"Well Well Well! Look what we have here!" The bandit cackled.
Women and children whimpered and cried as the group of bandits enclosed the shelter. I just kept my indifferent expression. One of the bandits looked at me and howled, "Hey we've got a brave one!"
The leader heard and walked my way.
"Really? Normally they're all terrified? Wonder what's up with her?"
He grabbed my chin roughly and made me look at him.
"Why're you so brave?" I wrinkled my nose. He needed a breath Mint or something. "Well one thing, I'm not afraid of you and two you need a breath mint." I stated as easily as anything.
He looked angry at me. Hm I wonder why? He then backhanded me into the floor.
Okay. That stung.
He took out a Bowie knife and made a motion to stab me in the chest. I rolled out of the way and grabbed my own knife. I held it up threateningly.
The leader lunged at me and swung his knife. He was more brawn than brains huh? I sidestepped, swung mine up and sliced his arm. He screeched and spun around. He lunged again, but I lunged at him too. I ducked under him and sliced his chest. He fell as I stood. He coughed and shouted curse upon curse at me. I didn't care though.
"Listen up! I don't care if you joined willingly or out of fear, I care about if you decide to shoot! Being The leader means he was the strongest right? Well I took him down! That means I'm the strongest! If you all think I'm just a child, well at least I've seen more than you! I know death, and death knows me. I've watched people burn or die of disease. So for right now until I decide someone wiser to lead this band, I'm the leader! Do you understand!"
"Ma'am yes Ma'am!" You could tell these people were of the army before it happened.
"So then help these people!" I shouted.
And they complied with out a complaint. I looked over the men and saw a battle scarred middle aged man.
I walked over to him and stopped him.
"What's your name?"
"Sawyer. Michael Sawyer"
"Can you lead?"
"I was a general in the army before 10/13 happened."
"Good. Can you lead them to not kill but protect?"
"I will."
"Then my friend, you are the leader of this band. Protect this area and people, for they cannot protect themselves. Got it?" I ordered.
Sawyer saluted.
"I will ma'am. But may I ask your name?"
"Genesis."
"No last name?"
"Not that I can remember."
"O-oh." He stuttered.
I chuckled. "Then general Sawyer, I leave this to you. Thank you for doing this. I can tell you'll help these people prosper."
"Thank you genesis. It's not everyday you hear a 10 year old say the words a wise old man should say." He smiled at me. I smile back and held my hand out to him which he took And shook it.
"Listen up!" I shouted after the handshake.
"I leave you to General Michael Sawyer! Listen to him, alright!"
"Yes Ma'am!" The all saluted me. I nodded and started to walk to the exit.
Cheers slowly went up as I walked.
I smiled and started to run until I was out the door but then I kept running.

It seemed like an hour had gone by the time I stopped. My hands were on my knees as I greedily sucked in oxygen.
As I panted, I thought I heard footsteps. I looked up and saw my suspicions were confirmed. A man stood Infront of me. He had blue-black hair, black eyes, and was tall. He wore a jacket similar to mine, but shorter. It had fur on the hood and the main part was made of leather. He also wore a strange headband and had a piercing on his bottom lip. I bet girls would go crazy over him.
"Who're you?" The man questioned.
"Genesis."
"RJ."
"Cool name."
"Thanks."
"Why're you out here?"
"Living my life. Seeing things."
"Same. Though I wonder where your parents are."
"I don't know. I don't know what happened to them."
"So you an orphan?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Basically."
"Oh."
He looked me in the eye for a moment before looking above me. His eyes widened and he ran at me.
"Hey-?!"
He grabbed me and ran off the road into the woods with me under his arm.
"What are you doing!?"
"Shut up I'm saving you life!"
"From what!?"
"The Breakers."
I heard of those guys. All they want is money. But if the people don't have any there is blood.

The time he let me go was when we were at least a few miles into the forest.
I stared at him as he grabbed wood and put it into a pile. He then took to rocks and started a fire.
We were silent.
"So how are you involved with the breakers." I asked.
He was silent as the flames crackled.
After a moment he spoke.
"They wanted money from my dad, who I was living with, we were broke. So, they killed him and beat the crap out of me. But I ran, and now they're after me."
"Oh."
Silence again. I'm getting sick of silence right about now.
"I can fight. I have a hunter's knife on me and I'm swift enough to take them down."
"Your nuts. No one can defeat them!" He exclaimed. Well it sounded good in my head right about now.
"Well it's either that or you come with me." I said quietly, but he still heard me.
"To where?"
"Anywhere but here. I know the trails and cities better than you, so I can navigate."
"What about hunting?"
"I'm good at it, but what I truly want to do is explore the whole of our world since 10/13."
"So you wanna sail and walk long distances?"
"Yes! Just like those pirates from books and movies."
He looked like he was contemplating my idea. He sighed and said, "Alright. I'll come with you. We can find a crew and get a ship. Deal?" He held out his hand. I was stunned and it took me a moment to snap out of it and shake his hand.
And so our story begins with that one handshake.
