After the grief defeat of Seido to Inashiro High, the whole team definitely lost their confidence and motivation due to their defeat. Especially the third-year players. Soon, the third years retired as they have to go for baseball try-outs or study for college.
Almost everyone was in a state of sadness, regret and grief. But, this state is not permanent. Everyone began to get back up and hearts full of spirit. Now with their new team captain, Miyuki Kazuya. They started to have practice matches with other schools to improve the quality of the players in Seido. Of course, Eijun Sawamura was pumped up and ready to pitch to any opponents of his.
During that time period, you were suddenly transferred to Seido. Such an unusual timing to be there huh? You were one of the best hitters back at your school so surviving here should be managable.
Your first few days there was quite good. Most of them were pretty easy going and helpful when guiding you throughout the school and the training regimens. There was one person who caught your attention though, a pitcher, Eijun Sawamura.
That brunet was a very energetic person. Rather loud too. His pitching also has a peculiar form, different from any other pitchers back at your old school.
One day, the coach gave you an assignment to help Sawamura on batting. Since he is not that good with it. At first you were hesitant but then, you decided to help after all. Though, you dont do well with loud and noisy people since you were the kind to have a cool personality. Hopefully everything will go well.
Coach called over Eijun while you were already standing near the coach.
"Sawamura, I want you to practice your batting formation. [Name] here will help you out."
"Batting?! Why do I have to do batting while Furuya gets to practice his pitching?!" he exclaimed while pointing his finger at the raven haired boy.
"You dont want to bunt for the rest of your life do you, Sawamura?"
Eijun got himself dumbfounded. Of course, he dreamt of doing far hits or homeruns. You were still new here and he does not know you very well yet. Eijun hoped that you were the good batter as he will expect.
"Hey, lets practice at the empty grounds shall we, Sawamura?" you pointed out at the empty area.
The brunet merely nodded in agreement. Soon, the two of you got ready and head towards the empty area. "So i heard you're only good at bunts?" you questioned him.
"Shut up! I tried batting other than bunts before but... I usually missed them," he said loudly at first and then his speech became softer. You chuckled.
"What's so funny?!! I just wanted to hit balls that goes FWOOM and BAM!!"
"Relax, i'll teach you do basics. You just gotta get the formation and aim right," you said in a somehow relaxed voice that somehow calmed Eijun down. "Now lets get started."
You showed him the proper stance and position when one is standing in the batter's box. Eijun followed your lead and guide to doing so.
"Heres the tricky part. Don't just swing randomly when the ball comes. Observe. Prediction is good sometimes too. Remember, every second counts when you decide on where to hit. Once you have the target just swing with full force." The pitcher gave a thumbs up as a sign that he understood.
"Watch carefully, and always stay calm," you demonstrated the batting movement. A quick and swift movement of your bat swinging made Eijun's eyes wide as he stared at you in awe. He knows that to make a full swing like that will take practice.
"By the way, can you pitch to me from a distance?"
"Wait! Theres no one to catch the ball for me and you dont have the protective gears right now!"
"Just do it. As long as you dont hit me directly in the face then its fine."
Eijun took his distance as he held his glove and the ball. Both of you roughly estimated the normal distance between the batter and the pitcher. "Give me the best you have," you said as you got in your batting position on the right side. Giving him a nod as a sign that you were ready.
As Eijun gave his best shot, a fast low pitch to the inside. You gave off a clean blow to the outer left field. The boy opposite of you just stared in amazement. With that kind of pitch, you managed to hit a really good one there.
Soon, the two of you finally ended your training session together as the sun was about to set.
"You were amazing! How did you get so good at batting, [Name]-cchi!?"
"-cchi? Uh.. I used to practice shadow hitting before. That is also one way you can improve your swings there, Sawamura," you stuttered slightly at first as that was the first time someone gave you a nickname. You did felt bashful when he complimented. Resulting a light shade of pink to appear on your cheeks.
Eijun gave a thumbs up and his signature grin on his face. "By the way, you can call me Eijun, [Name]. So i guess we're friends now!" he said while letting out his hand for a handshake. Giving him a smile, "Sure, Eijun-kun,"you accepted his handshake.
"Well, I better be going. See you soon, Eijun-kun," waving him goodbye as you head towards your dorm.
Eijun soon realised, your hand was all rough. Must be because of your hard work. It really paid off in developing your current batting skills.
He thought to himself, "[Name]-cchi must have did a lot to have palms like that. I hope we can go to the nationals together one day, [Name]."
