"Sit down." Those were the first words Harry heard as he entered Professor Di Angelo's office. Everyone was exactly on time except for George and Fred. Harry couldn't see them anywhere in the class but he remembered Ron gloating about the fact that the twins were also going to be in detention.
The professor took attendance and after noticing the twins weren't here he smiled cruelly.
"You can all thank Fred and George Weasley later since I won't be starting detention until they arrive. Till then you are to stay quiet." Harry glanced at Ron and both of them rolled their eyes.
"And you can also thank Ron, Harry, Elizabeth, Kathy and everyone else who just rolled their eyes, detention will be longer than planned because of them."
Just then a drunken Fred strolled in beside a shameful looking George.
"Sorry Professor, it took a while to find Fred." What surprised Harry the most was not the shameful looking George but rather the absence of anger on the professor's face as he silently waved the two boys in.
"I'm not too cruel so your detention will be to do all the homework you haven't done and then hand it in to me." He flicked his wand once and a scroll popped up on everyone's desk. The top of the scroll had a list of the work Harry hadn't done and the rest was blank.
With another flick of his wand Professor Di Angelo made ink and feathers appear on each desk.
"Start writing." Ron nudged Harry in the ribs and rolled his eyes again, he pointed to his scroll and Harry couldn't help but gape at it. The list of work that needed to be done was horrendously long.
"Did you not do any work?" Harry whispered.
"No talking." Professor Di Angelo warned. How is he able to see and hear everything? Wondered Harry.
Instead of pondering over the matter he started his work. He was glad detention wasn’t going to be too hard, or too long; with only two essay to write he could be done in an hour, hopefully.
Ten minutes later the first student was done. He didn't know the girl. She was probably in the twin's grade or she knew them since Harry noticed her sticking out her tongue at the boys.
"Miss Jaimie," the professor warned. Harry winced in advance waiting to hear the girl's punishment.
"Please withhold unpleasant actions for outside my classroom."
In the back of the class someone coughed, it was obviously fake, and meant to cover up an insult that Harry wasn’t able to hear.
As if it was possible, the classroom became even quieter as the professor calmly called the boy to his desk. The boy stumbled forward, biting his nervously and stood trembling in front of Professor Di Angelo's desk. Everyone was hanging off their chair, looking at the interaction closely.
"Miss Jaimie, I don't know if you heard but Mister Fredrik just called you a teacher's pet. No matter how measly the insult may be, I don't allow bullying of any type in my presence. To make sure this will never happen, tomorrow both of you will come to my office. I hope you so not feel as if this is a detention Miss Jaimie, however; I believe this is necessary."
Jaimie and Fredrik both returned to their seats after being dismissed and Harry noticed the small frown on her face. He understood her, it really sounded like she was getting a detention for getting laughed at, even though Professor Di Angelo promised it wasn't one.
It took seven minutes until the next person finished. The boy asked the professor if he could leave but Professor Di Angelo declined his request.
"Nobody leaves until everyone is done. Sit quietly while you wait."
Harry stayed as silent as possible for two an hour and forty three minutes. His leg bounced unrestfully under the desk and he had long since finished destroying his quill for amusement.
“You may stop working now.” The small amount of students who were still scribbling down words on their scrolls sighed happily and leaned back on their chairs. Somewhere in the front of the class a chair scrapped loudly against the floor. Before that person was standing Professor di Angelo made him sit down.
"I would like to inform you that next time you have detention it will be longer, and I hope that I won’t be seeing you here. Please hand in all work to the front of my desk and anyone who isn’t done can come to my room tomorrow lunch, I’ll be here to help you finish up. You may leave now." Everyone one jumped up and practically ran to the door after the detour to the teacher’s desk. Harry was scared of being trampled but a hand grabbed onto his sleeve right before two people collided together and fell on the floor.
"What a ruckus!" He would've noticed that voice anywhere. He gave Neville a big grin and suppressed a laugh that was threatening to escape. He didn't want to find out what the professor would do if he heard laughter. Heck! He didn’t even know why he was about laugh.
"Hey Neville, I didn't even see you. How'd you like detention?"
"Amazing, we shared secrets over a cup of tea and became fairy princesses!" He answered sarcastically. That’s new, I never he was the sarcastic type.
When everyone was gone both boys calmly left the room and went to bed.
"I guess Professor Di Angelo's detentions aren't that bad."
Neville nodded and whispered to Harry since they had arrived to their room and Ron was already snoring away with Seamus and Dean.
"I heard that once Fred and George had to clean all the bathrooms without magic."
Harry cringed at the thought of washing the boys' disgusting bathrooms. But then he shuddered thinking about the detention he never got to do with Professor di Angelo. Wanting to continue his conversation with Neville, Harry spoke his thoughts out loud.
“I’ve got another detention with him later on because of the boggart incident.”
“Man, I don’t want to be you right now.” It was worth a try, Harry thought, but the conversation finished with Neville’s attempt to sound apologetic over his exhaustion. Both boys fell into their respective beds with a huff. He didn’t bother putting the covers over his body, or even taking off his robes. The detentions may not be harsh but they were draining.
