Deer friends,

We haven't spoken in a while. I hope everyone is reading and writing fun stories. I edited KOTW down to about 80k in March. However, after meeting with a few potential agents/publishers, I've decided to rewrite the story based on the feedback I received. I will let everyone know when I complete the next draft, and I will leave the current version up on Wattpad for as long as I can :). Thank you for reading!

@maybeiwas2shy Yo! Sorry for the late reply, but I have a really good excuse. I just got back from Jamaica :D. I really appreciate the inspirational pep talk, actually. The struggle to balance real life with writing is real...

RIP Rony indeed. Still my favorite scenes in the book, even if they're pretty irrelevant to the plot :).

@ziggylong You're not going to need an inspirational pep talk from me, mate. I know that. But I'm going to give you one anyway.

If there was ever a book I read on Wattpad that I know is going to be published and on my shelf, it's KOTW. The first chapter I read almost a year ago got me absolutely sure. I've read so many many stories on this website. A lot of them have slipped away into oblivion. KOTW and it's characters have stayed. Ray and Byron are still fresh in my memory, even months after I last read it. And I haven't encountered anything as fresh, original and delightful as King of the Woods on this website ever since.

You'll get there, my man. We both know you will.

RIP Rony. Kangaroo shall miss you. So shall I.

@ziggylong Interesting. I'll find a copy. Shouldn't be too hard in this information age.

Hey when will KOTW be published? Just curious because I would love to buy a physical copy

Xenoclea

I would also love a physical copy of this amazing book!

@JimmyCruz6 Thank you for saying so :). I'm taking one last crack at rewriting it and submitting it to agents, but if I can't get it traditionally published I will self publish so people can have hard copies!

@JimmyCruz6 also interested, would love to gift it to someone who'd enjoy the book immensely.

Mmmh it's confusing but in a good way, what about the chapter where you mentioned ikwa or something like that?but the meaning for spear. You know I've never been this confused and want to know more about the writers point of view. I can't stop thinking about your book and so far it's the best I'll never forget. You rock dear

@smith073 Thank you for being interested! I have been absent from Wattpad for a while, but I will definitely post my next revision on Wattpad when it's ready.

Hi Ziggy I don't know what to say except WOW. I love the story but I'd like to know why you choose this story?what were you thinking and every small details you remember regarding the time you started writing. And I wouldn't change a thing in this book but since you will please don't make it too much.

@smith073 Hello! I am glad you liked it! The basic plot comes from reading James Frazer's The Golden Bough. Much of the rest of the story comes from my personal experiences. I grew up in Florida, and I really like wandering the woods, and I wish our state government (Tallahassee) did a better job of protecting the environment. There are many outside influences too, like Alan Moore's Swamp Thing or the story of St. Hubertus. Rony's backstory is based on my own; my dad's first job was at McDonald's, and my mom lived on McDonald's hamburgers when she first moved to the States. He's also inspired by Dante from Clerks, and the trope of gas station attendants in horror movies, and the Bob Dylan / Jimi Hendrix song that Audubon mentions. There's a lot of little things like that, so if you want to know about a specific character or event in the book I'd be happy to tell you.

As far as what I was thinking, mostly it was about the nature of violence: Why changes in politics or culture are usually accompanied by violence, why people become violent, and when violence is morally justifiable. A deer will run away from conflict if it can, but it'll fight to the death if it must.

How have you been sir? Still hunkered down in the rewrite trenches?

krazydiamond

@ziggylong *insert George Takei face* Oh my. The book is wobbling along. It's maiden voyage is a little rough but we shall see how it does after a few promotions. Don't forget to leave the writing cave for the occasional dose of sunlight.

King of the Woods is the best thing I've read on wattpad.

ziggylong

@Not-A-Space-Cop I appreciate feedback on anything in about the book, trust me :D. I think you're right, most people who've seen it prefer the title King of the Woods.

@ziggylong It may not mean anything, but I think King of The Woods is a better title than Trivial Pursuit, because when Ray refers to Rex as "king of the woods," and Trivia gets upset by it, it really draws the reader in and makes one wonder what kind of crazy shit is about to be revealed.

@Not-A-Space-Cop Wow, thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm rewriting it now, and it's pretty painful.
