Important facts you should know about Tourettes Syndrome and tics coming from someone with tourettes

~We do not tic 24/7! Just because someone isn't ticcing does not mean they are faking. 

~Tourettes is genetic, you cannot catch it, you have to be born with it. 

~Tics are not intrusive thoughts!! We do not tic what we are thinking!!!!! 

~ Everyone with tics is different, no ones tics will look the same. 

~It's a common misconception that ADHD, Autism, and anxiety cause tics, when in reality they do not! They can cause twitches or stims, which can seem similar, but are not the same as tics. If you think you are having actual tics, please go to a doctor, you might have a tic disorder!

~About 50% of people with tourettes are not diagnosed (I am tho yay!) 

~Only 10% of people with tourettes swear (I do unfortunately) 

~Tourettes is lifelong and has no cure.

~Tourettes is quite common, it occurs in 1 in 162 people which is around 0.6% of the population.
