I was born in Hong Kong in the 1960s. Both my parents are immigrant parents - my father from Guangzhou and my mother from Singapore. I have spent my life at the crossroads of culture and change.

My story began in the halls of a top Jesuit school, leading to a career in architectural and interior design. When I graduated in the summer of 1983, I found myself in the front row for the historic Sino-British Declaration. Since then, my journey has been a map of modern Asia's incredible transformation-from managing design projects in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei, and Hangzhou, financial data services and ecommerce in Taiwan, to leading major real estate ventures in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou and Yunnan. I haven't just watched these cities rise; I've had a hand in building them, including helping to establish 6 schools in rural China.

This life between blueprints and building sites, has given me a unique perspective on the themes that fuel my novels: the immigrant spirit, the fusion of East and West, and the intricate ties of family that bind us across generations and borders.
When I'm not consulting, I'm a passionate home cook, an avid reader, and a rather hopeless golfer. My stories are my way of exploring the memories, flavours, and legacies that shape us. They are love letters to the cities I've called home and tributes to the families who, like my own, built their dreams far from where they began.

I live in Shanghai with my wife and our children, still observing, still building, and still writing. I dedicate my writing to my mother, Jayne.
