ㅤㅤㅤanzu, from a young age, had displayed all the qualities of an incredibly promising bender. by merely fourteen, he had taught himself each and every form and technique possible within firebending. had educated himself on the culture and the history. yet, it was NEVER enough. what he desired, more than anything, was a true challenge. he wanted more, more, more, more, so what else could he do but TAKE it? at sixteen, anzu had mastered the art of LIGHTNINGBENDING. had earned himself a coveted place amongst the firelords elite royal guard at only seventeen.
ㅤㅤhowever, the presitge of this position would only last for so long. his father was revealed to be a traitor ; one who had been leaking war plans to the earth kingdom and the white lotus for years. it was disgrace . . and it was TREASON.
ㅤㅤthe firelord, upon learning of the betrayal, deployed soldiers to wipe out the ' scum ' . only his mother was there. as a nonbender, but the descendant of a long line of fire sages and a previous admiral in the fire nations air force, she held her own against the warriors . . in the beginning. ultimately, yui faced demise against the sheer number of skilled benders that had come. && when his father returned to the scene of his wife on the brink of a brutal death, what more could he do than fight back?
ㅤㅤit was such a foolish thing to do.

ㅤㅤwithin the hour, both the patriarch and the matriarch of the ire family had been wiped out. their bodies were taken to the palace. their home was burnt to the ground. and his sister . . captured in the midst of a botched escape, her son clutched to her chest. both were taken as prisoners. anzu knew nothing of the occurence until ozai presented him with the traumatizing sight. his parents bodies. a helpless sister. his three-year-old nephew in zhao's clutches.
ㅤㅤthe threat was clear, despite the lack of words. IF HE EVER DARES TO DEFECT, HE'LL LOSE HIS ONLY REMAINING FAMILY, AND BE THE SOLE CAUSE OF IT.

* and with that , his fire had died . as those eyes met his own warm , brown hues , he seemed to deflate . tense shoulders fell , his once hardened expression drew back to it’s softer , weakened state . naive child . that’s what he was , now and always * .. fine . * his voice was merely a whisper . he couldn’t keep this up without a backbone . not now at least . seeing his friend like this was too much without any warning * but .. just know this ; i know my friend is still there somewhere . and i’m not .. i’m not stopping until i get him back .

@petramignis ㅤㅤ* after knowing everest for so long, anzu had grown used to his calm. the small smile, the naive nature, the neverending / patience / . hearing him YELL — it shook the royal guard right to the core, and he found himself stilling, shoulders tense. then the nickname — how long had it been since anzu had heard that? and for it to be said with such / grief / ( disgust? ) .. * things change. * he couldn't lose his cool. as tough as it was to keep his voice from cracking, anzu appeared damn near unaffected as he turned; violet hues steeled and glinting with a cold hatred as they met everests' own * i learned more. i joined the guard. ozai leaned his favour towards me. i went from nothing, to something extrodinary. and if you think i'll turn my back on the man who gave me all of that, you're the same pathetically naive child you were years ago.

pity ? * every other sentence starter was just a word . confusion ran deep in his mind , pupils dilating in disbelief . why would anzu think that ? and BLOOD ? every single one of them had blood on their hands — whether they liked it or not * STOP IT ! * his voice rose , something it rarely ever did . he was getting ,, angry ? frustrated ? * what happened to you , anzu ? you’re not the person i knew before — so WHAT HAPPENED ? * lashing out was foreign to the earthbender . this only ever happened when he saw zuko after YEARS ,, and even after such a short outburst , he was already burnt out * just .. just what happened , zu ? you NEVER would’ve WANTED to beforehand !
