hogwarts school of witchcraft & wizardry, founded in the 9th century, is one of the wizarding world's leading educational institutions for today's youth.

located in an undisclosed area in scotland, hogwarts has been leading the way in wizarding education for many of the world's brightest and accomplished witches and wizards of all time. 

all first-years at hogwarts must take seven subjects: transfiguration, charms, potions, history of magic, defense against the dark arts, astronomy and herbology. flying lessons (on broomsticks) are also compulsory.

at the end of their second year at hogwarts, students are required to choose a minimum of two more subjects from the following list: arithmancy, muggle studies, divination, study of ancient runes and care of magical creatures.

there are four houses. gryffindor, slytherin, hufflepuff, and ravenclaw. all first years are sorted by the sorting hat.
