Okay. Long rant(ish) incoming. This has been rattling around my brain for months now and I think the only way to get it to stop is to just get it out there.
As some people probably noticed, all of my Harry Potter fics were removed a couple months ago. They will not be coming back. I can no longer, in good conscience, engage with any of J.K. Rowling's work, the idea makes me sick to my stomach and that makes me really sad because those books were super important to me (I even went to one of the midnight premieres of Death Hallows with my mom). I used to be able to engage with her work by writing fic by using the world she created as a stepping stone and doing whatever I wanted with the characters because I'd already lost respect for her, so canon was officially mine to do with as I pleased. I can no longer do that.
If you can still engage with her work, that's awesome! I'm envious. I wish I still could. However, know that my respect for you still being able to engage with her work stops the moment money is involved. The money she is making off her work is being put towards horrible things. She's admitted what she's going to do with it and I can't be a part of that and you shouldn't either. You wanna write fic? Go ahead. But do not buy any officially licensed merchandise, do not stream the movies, do not buy the books or movies (unless you are buying them second hand) and do not watch the new show. She profits off of all of that and you should not be okay with what she's using your money to do.
I will not argue about this. As much as I love arguing with idiots, this is not something I am willing to debate with anyone. If you disagree with me, get off my page. And if you say something, I'm just going to block you.
