He embarked on his academic journey at Wesleyan University, majoring in Economics and excelling as a multi-sport athlete in football and baseball. Following a back injury, he transferred to Boston College, graduating with honors in Accountancy.

After completing his education, he obtained the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, impressively passing all three examination levels on his first attempt. He further expanded his investment knowledge at Columbia University's Executive Value Investing Program, studying under Professor Greenwald.

He began his professional career at Prudential Capital Group and Prudential Securities in 1998, specializing as an investment analyst in Commercial Real Estate and publicly traded REITs. He then progressed to Vice President in the Real Estate, Gaming, Lodging, and Leisure Investment Banking Group at Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc. Before establishing his investment firm, he was a key partner at a Chicago-based, value-focused Hedge Fund.
