        ``  maybe she didn't like a certain smell on you . `` he hummed out , hand running through the fur of the feline trying to calm her so there wouldn't be another outburst.  ``  she can be  quite violent at times . i have faint scars from her scratching . there's also some nights where I'll wake to her plopped on my face, making it where I can't breathe, chewing my hair . ``

            mumbling hungarian curses underneath his breath , pluto tried to keep his facade of calmness he often portrayed .  couldn’t lose his cool over some cat , that would make him look ridiculous .  “ i WAS gentle .  and i’m not stupid enough not to let a cat sniff your finger first before touching .  ”

      carlos found amusement in all this , his gaze drifting to the feline that was on his lap tail fluffed out . `` maybe she just didn't like that you tried petting her out of nowhere ?  ... im sure she'll get used to you after a while. ``

        `` it was my sister who gifted me books before we grew distant.. `` he explained , eyes drifting away from pluto now to look around . `` what's your favorite book or genre ? since you have so many ... `` he questioned , raising a brow , turning the questions towards pluto now

            family was just as much an iffy topic for pluto , not that he completely despised them but the last time he saw them was the night he..  no .  he didn’t want to think about it again .  “ that seems the case for many .  i’ve always been fond on reading myself  ,  my parents often gifting me books .  ”

    if the topic of family had been pushed , carlos probably would've just spoken about his sister . there was no way he would speak about his father . the mere thought of it brought distaste . `` when I was younger , no . but eventually , reading grew on me . `` 

    there was a small flinch at the squeeze to his jaw . he acted like it didn't happened though , keeping his jaw tense.  the laugh had caught him off guard . ``  monster  ? ``  he repeated , almost thoughtful . `` no , you're no monster . you'd be correct , I believe you're something darker ... something way WORSE . `` his voice lowered , deliberate  .  ``  because you seem to know what you're doing . and you don't seem to care . `` another pause , but this one lingered longer — like something unsaid clinging to the back of his throat . `` but I think ... what unsettles me the most ? `` he tilted his head back the best he could , a flicker of amusement,  unease  , and a bit of pain .``  is that some part of me understands it ?  maybe even some request ? ``  his lips into a bitter smile.  maybe it wasn't a good idea to express such stuff. maybe he should've bitten his tongue, stayed buried in his carefully built control. but it was too late for that now.

            for once there was a pause , almost as if the words had pluto thinking .  and maybe they did , but the man in question couldn’t help letting out a more genuine laugh this time .  he couldn’t help himself , especially with how the other was trying to figure him out .  “ nothing ends well with those trying to find out what drives me..  why i do what i do .  but you amuse me more than anyone has  ,  do you truly believe that i’m some sort of wolf in sheep’s clothing ?  a man who hides behind a suave persona but is filled with nothing but darkness ?  ” his voice had a surprisingly deep tone to it as he gave carlos a light squeeze to their jaw .  “ you’re not exactly wrong .  it’s funny how a man of my stature became this way .  born into a regular rich lifestyle but decided to turn into what most would call a..  monster .  though i doubt that’s what you believe me to be  ,  no .  something..  something more DARKER—  am i correct ?  ”

      carlos didn’t respond at first. Not with words. not with movement. he simply stood there, that ever-present stillness wrapping around him like a second skin. but something behind his eyes shifted—just a flicker. carlos's jaw tense , he takes in a breath before letting out a shaky breath . `` i enjoy precision . I enjoy patterns. watching a mind unravel in controlled increments — that , / i / understand ... but this ? you ? you're disorder masquerading as some balance . chaos in a suit . you can it a play , but you're just trying to feel something bite back . `` he paused , eyes holding this challenging defiance to them .

- they probably have helped each other a few times when it came to killings. 
            
            - no matter how much assurance, carlos won't eat or even try the meat plutoe makes
            
            - carlos has definitely been over to pluto's house a few times just to be in the library. like that's the place he mainly stays, not bothering anyone
            
            - he really only comes to the restaurant during the hours that aren't the busiest and the days he knows pluto will be there 
            
            - they've probably stabbed each other at one point . 
            
            - I don't know, pluto seems like he would get carlos stuff. like starts small and then so on. 
            
            - carlos cat has definitely scratched pluto when he visited one time.
