( @internalstrife ) the captain flashes him a friendly, lopsided smile, lifting his straw hat up slightly. shanks had been wandering around town for a while, his ship docked by the port as his crew restocked on supplies; he just so happened to stumble upon the masked figure as he was training. “name’s shanks. hope i didn’t startle you there.” he chuckles, curiously eyeing azrael’s blade as he approaches. “couldn’t help but notice how hard you were going at that training dummy. i’ve got one of my own, actually.” he lifts up his coat ever so slightly, revealing the green hilt of the sabre strapped to his hip. “named it gryphon.” looking back up at the crime-fighter, he cocks his head to the side. “is that so? that’s a shame! there’s nothing quite like the thrill of a duel among swordsmen.” his smile is unwavering, even as he holds his hand out to the other in a cordial gesture. “how about a friendly spar between you and i, then? i’d be glad to show you the ropes!”
@redhaircd azrael was completely divulged in his own thoughts when the other first approached him. the events he'd been through that night were perilous, to say the least, but his sword remained a symbol of what he was doing all of his crime-fighting for: to punish the wicked and better other people's lives. but as soon as he heard him speak, he'd turned his attention from the practice dummy he was using his sword on to him. jean lowered it, then, while an eyebrow rose beneath his mask, " thank you. i don't know the exact details behind its making, but this sword was made with a lot of care. it's actually been passed down through generations, " jean stated simply, as a strange sense of curiosity hit him at the question. he hummed in consideration for a moment. " wow... that has to be the first time anyone's asked me that. i have fought with it plenty of times, but i can't say i've dueled anyone with it. why do you ask? "
@hatredgrins enter jean-paul valley, or azrael, as he's presently known -- and his current predicament in what he thought to be an abandoned alleyway. but of course, there was someone lingering in the darkness that cloaked it. the joker. against his better judgment, jean was immediately tempted to turn the blade he was about to put in its scabbard against him because of the system... but azrael managed to sheath it. batman would surely have some qualms with him brutally hurting one of his enemies, " no... you aren't of any particular importance to me. though, i'm sure you already knew that, " jean's eyes narrowed at the joker through his mask. what was he doing walking amongst the masses? " but i'd be very interested to know how you got here. and i'm not afraid to hurt you to make you spill the details.
