yall its been a full year??? i hope u guys are well bless you all. idk how active yall still are and i prob wont be back but i'm popping on just to say im alive and well and slaying. in my second year of university, studying cognitive science, loving what i do. if you want me to go on the longest most insane tangent of my life feel free to ask me about my major.

regrettably i'm not the same degree of insane for the things i used to be insane about any more (i.e., musicals) but i saw hadestown last november and went crazy and insane about it. currently i've been super into reading again, currently reading the design of everyday things by don norman and why fish don't exist by lulu miller, recent faves are the secret history by donna tartt, the bell jar by sylvia plath, and vicious by ve schwab.

if yall want to keep in touch i'm @mildew-dread-mold on tumblr and shoot me a dm for my discord if you want, hope you guys are doing so great!!

I also saw Hadestown and it made me go crazy insane and I can’t shut up about it anymore, the design of everyday things is suggested reading for a course I’m in, and cog sci sounds SO COOL

not all gifted kids are compliant
not all gifted kids have good grades
not all gifted kids are gifted in every subject
kids with learning disorders can be gifted

gifted programs and accomodations are worthless if they only account for gifted kids who behave perfectly and have been doing competitions since the first grade. gifted kids who struggle in a classroom setting due to lack of academic stimulation are the ones who actually need gifted programs. xx

also i hope this doesn't come off as first-world problem-y, but as a gifted kid who was fucked over by gifted programs and has watched countless others get fucked over by gifted programs, and is currently watching my city fuck over gifted programs as a whole, i think this is important

there are gifted kids who think they're bad at math because they think it's tedious and dull, there are gifted kids who think they're bad at writing because they can't put their thoughts into words, there are gifted kids who can't finish their homework for some other reason. there are autistic gifted kids and dyslexic gifted kids and dyscalculic gifted kids and gifted kids with ADHD. there are gifted kids whose report cards don't make them seem gifted.

when parents ask for their kids to be put in a gifted program teachers will almost always say yes or no according to how well the kid behaves in class, which is bullshit. especially when one of the defining characteristics of being gifted is being unable to finish work due to understimulation.

@benawalters thanks! i’ve been doing thumbs ups and that’s pretty much it. the company is family owned and employees and employers are pretty tight knit so i think in the future i can afford to be more colloquial but right now i’m not gonna risk losing the job
