tell me i’m not alone when i say that what’s with these people shipping tom with nagini like that’s genuinely so fucking weird. “he was as fond of her as he could be of anything” ok? that’s still a snake? and no idc if she’s a maledictus. would the idea be as appealing to them if she was a man? yeah that’s what i thought. i swear everyone’s so desperate to see him with a feminine figure but we as a society need to accept that it didn’t happen. at this point if basilisk was confirmed to be female they’d go for it as well. one day people could start shipping him with helena ravenclaw and i wouldn’t even be surprised

@bugishmugi the duality of wanting to read tom 24/7 but finding 80% of his characterization in fics insufferable LMAO. i try not to be judgmental because i honestly think every tom writer has a phase where they're still figuring him out and establishing their own interpretation (i started my tom fic when i was 18 and i would have written it very differently with my perspective on his character now) and he's sooooo complex and contradictory that it's hard to hit the nail on the head. tbh i think there are a few people (no one specifically, just generally) who would be better off writing mattheo instead. he exists solely for self-indulgence and to fulfill popular male tropes. you can tick as many YA love interest checkboxes as you want with him because his character demands no heavy lifting on the part of the author. tom is a fucking case study lmao. reducing him to anything less than the thousand nuanced facets of his background and beliefs in order to pair him with a self-insert mc is more unnecessary than it is insulting

@regretmedaisy exacltyyyy this could be endless because i could honestly talk about this till morning. it’s either he recognizes the feeling and rejects it immediately, convincing himself that it’s for the manipulation to feel better OR starts with manipulating a certain subject with an intention and then slowly realizes that might not be the only reason he engages in it and both depends on the context and the oc fr!!! and also how long they’ve known each other for sure. while he’s very harsh and pragmatic in nature the situation would still vary because i mean he’s just a human like everyone else, we can theorize and still explore and both could work

@regretmedaisy YES YES OMG!!! it’s so interesting to see just how he developed his techniques and slowly coming to the realization like “hm, yes i may be a bad person but i’m also incredibly beautiful” and just using it against everyone else. his looks were just one of the means to his ends and he probably saw it as a tool to achieve what he wanted to become. as to whether he can feel sexual feelings or just none at all, i think he can, but he didn’t, as there was no love interest in his life. like what’s fun in fanfics is the fact that canonically some of them would actually be believable if only they happened. genuine love, no, but i don’t believe he was beyond redemption, he WOULD make the other person’s life a living hell, though. but i think he would be so unfamiliar with anything sexual he would probably never even recognize it on his own, or would be in denial and saying the sole purpose of it was his own gain and not satisfaction physically

i honestly don’t know what the hell was wrong with some of us and our childhoods but i definitely had no influence from my family or media regarding that matter while in my hp phase as a little girl. what i DO remember is having watched the movies quintillion times feeling unfazed but it was that one scene in 6th book when there’s tom’s thought process described in great detail and the subtle descriptions of filth slowly taking over his mind (with eyes turning red and everything) when hepzibah smith showed him that cup and locket that had 10 year old me giggling and twirling my hair and thinking back to this i’m like wtf was that. if it had happened in this decade i would’ve easily blamed social media and romanticization of murderers but i genuinely have no idea what to make out of this except uhhh get it i guess. hot girls have sapiosexual tendencies
