Brian Kersten, a veterinarian who spent his formative years on a farm in Appleton, Wisconsin, has dedicated his professional life to veterinary medicine. Fueled by a lifelong connection with animals, he graduated with high distinction in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota in 1977, setting a strong academic precedent for his career in animal healthcare.

In 2021, he founded Mercy Veterinary Service in Baldwin, Wisconsin, establishing a clinic that provides affordable veterinary care. This venture reflects his commitment to ensuring that all pet owners have access to necessary medical care, regardless of their financial means. His expertise at the clinic spans small animal surgery, medicine, and dentistry, where he is known for his compassionate approach.

He also serves the community as a relief veterinarian in Amery, Wisconsin. This role enables him to offer his medical services to various veterinary clinics, helping to maintain a high standard of care across the region.

His veterinary career began after receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1983. His initial professional years were spent in a mixed animal practice in Burlington, Wisconsin. In 1985, he ventured into humanitarian work, spending two and a half years in Haiti, where he applied his veterinary skills to support rural communities.

After returning to the United States in 1987, he continued his practice in Baldwin and purchased the practice in 2001. He also served as President of the Pierce St. Croix Humane Society from 2001 to 2003. After selling his practice in 2016, he concentrated on opening his low-cost veterinary clinic, which began operations in 2021.

Beyond his veterinary practice, he is deeply committed to philanthropic efforts. He volunteers at Today's Harvest Food Shelf, tackling food insecurity in his local area, and supports Mercy Corps in their international humanitarian initiatives.
