and in terms of wording, if you like using simple words, use simple words. if you like using complex words, use complex words, if you like both, use both, the choice is yours. it adds a little bit of you into the text. same with metaphors, analogies, and similes. if you don’t want to write them, you’re not going to write them well. let them come to you naturally, and when they do write it down so you can go back to it later. the universe means you started from that quote ‘the universe means you’. it came to me sometime at night, and from there i filled in the blanks with the direction i wanted the story to go. i didn’t write the story in order either. i wrote the ending before i wrote any of the chapters that led up to it. i’m pretty sure sapnap and karl’s chapter was the last chapter i wrote.

ALWAYS edit your text. i tend to write at night, because i find my sleeping thoughts to be my best ones, but i always edit when i’m fully awake. and i edit by reading my text out loud because it helps me spot mistakes easily. i also like to edit after fully writing the piece, that way i don’t already know what was written there so my brain doesn’t automatically fill in any errors.

and that leads me onto another thing, i like to fully write my books before publication (i’ve only just recently started doing this) because that prevents taking major breaks or giving up on a book where people are already invested. i find i’m more likely to click on a book if it says it’s recently been updated, or that it’s completed, so by fully writing it you can make sure that you’re not gonna give up.

i hope that helped a bit!!

okay, i’m not very good at talking about the process behind my writing, but i say if you’re going to write something, write it from the heart. write it based on what you want to write and what you want to read. don’t write it for other people, because if you do that you’re only gonna end up giving up because you’re not fully invested into writing that piece.

another way to write is to add a bit of a personal aspect to it, make a character have a quirk you have, make a place based on a place you love, make a character seem like a friend, add little easter eggs of your life, it makes writing SO MUCH FUN. and it also makes it easier to talk about that topic or thing, because it’s something you have loved, experienced, or something you’ve had. in the universe means you, the rooftop and field were little easter eggs, because i have always loved the idea of just sitting up on a rooftop and watching the world go by, especially in the city and at night, and i love just being in fields and nature.
