*the live feed cut off before gaia could see what was left of earth. her fingers moved in a tired rhythm across the keyboard, the kind that comes from too many nights at the console. she pushed a few override strings through the command line and watched the corrupted files flicker back into place. the amount of data wülfric had dumped into the system made her breath hitch. she leaned in, squinting at the screen, brows pulling together as a faint tick of his russian voice came through the comm.

            [HAWKO7]: your status, wülfric.

*she typed back. there were protocols for this and she was supposed to follow them, but the irritation slipped out before she could stop it.* of course, if you had not cut the live feed, i would have had an easier time pulling the data. *the outside noise bleeding through his intercom crackled in her ear, and she let out a slow breath she did not realize she had been holding.*

[HAWKO7]: is it still.. the same?

wülfric? *the automatic doors stuttered before they shut, the white light overhead flickering like it was running on its last fuse. the medical station buzzed with that low, uneven hum the generators made when they were tired. gaia took a slow breath, letting her eyes sweep over the room. she was proud of what her team had managed to salvage. nothing here was cutting edge, nothing even close to what the city clinics used, but it was enough to keep people alive. in 2O45, that counted for something. she crossed her arms, tablet tucked against her side, a frown pulling at her mouth. the vitals scanner on the wall clicked twice, trying to boot, then settled into a shaky standby. she glanced at the empty space near the barrier field, the faint shimmer of energy giving away the distortion.* turning yourself invisible in this barrier is going to get you caught. can we please just get on with this. i do not want to be here any more than you do.

*she tapped the tablet once, waking the screen. the system lagged, then finally loaded the intake form. half the icons were cracked or missing, but the basics still worked: pulse, oxygen, temp, neurological baseline. enough to run a checkup. enough to tell her if something was wrong. she waited, listening to the soft static shift in the air where he was hiding.*
