@Balasubas19 heres my first idea.
            Make a chapter in the future that theres a tipping point that the reader will unlock his new power. Like for example from goku in dbz when krillin got killed by frieza and that moment goku unlocked his super saiyan.
            In short in the future, make a chapter that the reader will unlock his new power through pain of loss.
