Chara possess many abilities with his blade. He is capable of stealing parts of universes with it, he can create multiple blades. He can also  overwrite himself into other people's bodies. But mainly he can use "Overwrite", a power to rewrite actions.

Chara was originally a child of XGaster. After being shown the multiverse by Ink Sans, XGaster began to experiment with X-Tale. Each new timeline that was created would result in someone relate to X!TaleChara to die, thanks to XGaster. After a few more timelines were created, Chara tried to rebel against XGaster but was defeated and ended up becoming XGaster's experiment which was know as the "X-Event". This granted X!TaleChara his "Overwrite" abilities. To keep his brother, X!TaleFrisk alive, X!TaleChara overwrites himself into his neglected brother.
