There is nothing wrong with your opening paragraph. I don't think it should hold you back from writing your story. You should write it the way you perceive. Then go back and improve it. Sometimes people just have to take a step back and clear their mind before approaching their work.  Then you can just take out all the extra words you skip over when you read :D

Ugh. I hate ranting. I feel so cruel even though it's a relief to say what's on my mind.
