I'm going to be taking Pericynthion Pt 2 down in approximately a week to two weeks in order to do some major remodeling to the work; I'm putting this announcement out to those of you who may still be either reading, or in the process of reading this work so that this change is less startling.

As a whole I attempted to use the approach to fly freely with this work in particular, and I'm no longer as happy as I used to be with how it turned out.

When I have some time I'll do the needful, and when it comes back it'll be more worthy of being out in the wild. Until then, best wishes for long life and prosperity to each of you.

          	Thank you very much.

Changelog for Pericynthion Pt 1.

6/18/2019: Re-worked Prologue to make it flow a little smoother; took suggestion from @weepingshadeofindigo to help accomplish this better. Thank you!

Time for a change log for Pericynthion, Pt. 2.

I'm doing this because time has permitted me to do so, and in the process of re-firing up my writing muse I've gone through my earlier work with what I've learned over the past few years and make some changes to some things I've ultimately become unhappy with. I hope you'll find these edits and changes well. :)

5/20/19: Prologue - Eliminated. After some reflection and review I found that this did not do much to either establish or drive the story in any way. Since while it seemed to be a good idea at the time to include it, yet ultimately came off to be both superfluous and confusing, I decided to remove it entirely.

It was my desire in this change that while yes, this is a sequel to Pericynthion 1, the beginning of this work should also stand on its own while providing the minimum necessary exposition to get new readers up to speed.

Chapter 1-6: Restructured and refined. I (re)introduced too many characters at the time; many of whom have no or little bearing on the plot. Cut down on some of the purple prose and focused more on the characters themselves.

5/22/19: Chapters 9-28: Cut down on a great deal of aviation technobabble. I've learned that we do not need to know every single aching step the character needs to accomplish in order to operate an aircraft. They already know what they're doing. Special note for chapter 27: I, uh, toned down my main character's rather interesting hangups into something I believe is a little more believable.

At any rate, I'm proud of the changes I've made so far and am looking forward to both continuing to make good changes to this work and actually finishing this work up in the near future.

I would also like to affirm that I am very open to comments, critique, and feedback as I go through this process. Feel free to speak up! :)

          Thanks for sticking around, everyone!

Hi everyone,

I've been spending an obscene amount of time recently in the Community; especially the Improve Your Writing categories and I'd like to bring to light some retooling of the two existing books as they sit. This is a direct result of things I've learned in the recent past and I intend to apply these things to not only better my craft, but to also provide YOU with a better experience. :)

I've not only re-titled them (several people have commented that the titles are rather lackluster and don't really give a great idea of what the story is about on the surface, and I've come to agree with this rather fair, correct assessment); I've also spent some time fleshing out re-skinning them as well. Part 1 remains complete, and while I've been plodding through life I've been working on continuing my work with Part 2 as well.

I hope the holidays have treated you and yours well, and if you're in the Midwest United States this evening, I hope you're not getting completely buried under snow!

Thank you all for your continued support!

I’ve read your astronaut tales before. They’re based off of Orbiter Space Flight Simulator, right?

Surly_Snowshoe

@MrToddWilkins I dimly recall mentioning it vaguely in conversation in Tale of Five Astronauts, but at that particular time I believe the hardware had been shelved for so long that it would've been impractical to employ. I remember exploring other CTV options with the ESA, Roscosmos and I believe even the CSA and Indian agencies but none of them struck me as able to flight-ready anything feasibly human-rated within the timeline of that story. Hence needing to expedite Constitution's sister ship.

The way that this particular universe/timeline has metastasized in my brain, it seems the Vanguard had taken many parallels with the Space Shuttle in real life - it superseded a lot of projects both on paper and in practice. One of the big selling points in-universe was the size and utility of the vehicle (think mobile, deployable and retrievable space station) along with its propulsion, and the on-orbit stages were all more or less internally carried, which greatly reduced the risk of damage to the OV during ascent operations.

Ergo, it's like the shades of the better part of the 80's and early 90's only without the annoying TV commercials.

2012. What happened to Orion in this timeline? Nobody’s mentioned it,

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take another moment to observe milestones for both Tales here -- and thank all of you again in the same breath. Recently I noticed both works have collectively passed the 2,000 read mark while I've been taking care of much of the 'in between' that I wanted to with this work. This show of support really means a lot to me!

In the upcoming sections I'm working on and have been building towards for the past several months: the big event is a return to space and a return to the moon! I'm excited about penning this. This is old, yet new territory for what I've got cooking in my brain this time around, and I wanted to thank everyone who's read, voted and commented and kept me going with this. I'm VERY happy with how things have been going here.

          So . . . thank you! :)

Surly_Snowshoe

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a moment to observe a milestone for Tale of Two Astronauts and thank all of you in the same breath: as of today, 16 May we passed the 500 read mark. Woohoo!

I know there's been a significant amount of events occurring Dirtside for the main characters in this work: apparently my muse has been quite adamant that more work is needed developing the characters and taking care of some 'real life' (to them, not to me) issues going on. And I'm okay with that.

So: Thank you all again! It's been a great experience writing here, and I'm only too happy to keep on keeping on. :)

Surly_Snowshoe

Hi everyone,

Tale of Five Astronauts is basically done to my satisfaction. If there's anything unclear in the work or needs further exposition or improvement please let me know.

Additionally, I've taken off fairly well with Tale of Two Astronauts: I'm very happy with the way this particular work has gone and I've come across some very challenging writing over the past two weeks. I'm a stickler for getting things 'right' and it may be obvious that I have a passion for incorporating real life events into my character's lives. I really hope you enjoy navigating your way through this Space Story That Really Isn't Much Of A Space Story as much as I've been having fun writing it so far. :)
