I have been self-employed in the creative sector all my life (well, I stumbled into employee status a couple of times but it ain't for me). I'm an actor, singer, musician, teacher, arts organization monster (volunteer and for money).

I wrote bout 70 songs between 15 and 20. I still sing about half a dozen of them.

I began to write just words as polemics.

I was a union president in the dim distant 20th century.

I do have some stories to tell.

But I have been championing artists' right to compensation through so-called orderly markets for so long that I'm still trying to align my values with how to do "business". This is especially awkward as I currently serve a group of freelance writers whose mandate is to ensure that writing work is paid.

So here I am.
