"i got my hands on a rough case," he sounded disgruntled, stepping back from where he was standing with a pensive expression on his face outside the government building. "and i'm about to turn it around."

"Maybe," she responded with a playful tone, sending him a look. The redhead studied him, his body language giving away his tiredness. Typical of him, doing everything he could for others whilst forgetting to take care of himself, even if only just a little. "You know, I think we should leave it unanswered, keep the mystery. It's nice." she joked slightly. "How are you, Matthew?"

"you do?" his frown twisted into something more pleasant, having had enough drinks now to smooth down the frown lines on his face to make place for something more relaxed. laughing at her joke, he gestured for her to join him as he would then move his hand to call for another drink for his company. "are you sure this was just a coincidence? you sound far too happy for that."

"I have more mercy than that," she gave him a smile, however fleeting it was, it was still sincere. A hand came to rest on his shoulder and gave him a comforting, little squeeze, before she came to sit beside him. "I was waiting for the invitation. Didn't want to disturb whatever was going on between you and your glass. Whatever it did to you, I'm sure it regrets." she teased him slightly, moving her hand away. "It's nice to find you here, Matthew. It's not often I'm lucky to have such a pleasant company."

matthew was becoming too good at the part where he showed up at places without much warning but, in his defense, it wasn't like he himself was given much warning when things would go to shit. a quick smile quirked on his lips before it vanished again, but what difference it made was unspoken of for obvious reasons. "thank you."

' i cannot stress enough that you need not seek permission nor forgiveness to return . come on then , let's find a seat , i've no doubt you've got much on your mind to visit so soon . '

"ditto, father." matthew smiled, though it was fleeting and fragile. "i hope you don't mind me showing up unannounced like this. ... again."

matthew conceded rather quickly, gesturing with his hands before putting his fists up. "okay." which was his only warning, otherwise prepared, before he threw the punch that was requested of him.

"i believe you." matthew had seen fisk's ruthlessness through different lenses, and could understand why ripping everything away from someone that needed that support was not at all above kingpin. daredevil's demeanour in the conversation wasn't entirely open, he was listening out for the heartbeat and the smaller things, head slightly tilted as he made his decision. he couldn't be violent- that was a part of himself that was better kept to the devil- and his head was angled straight towards his intruder. the apology it seemed to hand over with a small amount of shuffling wasn't something matt could outwardly accept. in a way, he did understand- in legal terms, a plea of insanity might wedge a bit of distance between moral responsibility. but, still, he wasn't sure if that was enough for him to forget the sounds of it all. his anger, if it were angled at anyone in particular, was surely reserved for wilson fisk. "what are your plans now?"

the hitman closed his eyes , unsure just how to feel with the other's apology . unsure what he wanted to happen .
it almost wished the devil would've reared its head and beat him into a pulp , shouted and screamed about all the lives it took .
he scrubbed at his face with his spare hand , ignored the violent twitch in the other , and gazed out at the horrendously bright lights through the window .
' i don't expect you to believe me , to want to see me again . . . i just needed to tell someone what happened . '
despite everything it'd done to the man , murdock was the only person left in his life . it wished they could've been friends , as unlikely that would've ever been between a hero and villain .
' i'm sorry that i took someone from you , like fisk did with me . '

matthew didn't want to jump the gun— he might complain about timing, but his life had become intertwined with that of daredevil and it never made much of a difference anymore. his hands rested on his hips, head tilted to the side to read any signs that could he given to him through his hearing. whether it was lying, or perhaps trying to get on his good side for something else. matt cursed himself for being so pessimistic, balancing two sides of his persona with each passing sentence. "fisk has a tendency to try his hand at this kind of manipulation." he nodded, knowing that he made an enemy out of the kingpin for a reason. "well, i'm sorry he did that to you. even if we did have our problems, fisk knew what he was doing by using you."

"No? What a disappointment," she pouted in a childish manner, trying to push him, provoke a reaction. Anything that caused him to make the first move, so she would have the advantage to study him, seize him. She was better when counterattacking, for then... she would go only for one's weak spots. "Funny. No, I was just wondering here, given the unusual outfit and all, if you would also escape the superhero cliché... but guess not. All the creativity stopped at the choice for a costume, yeah? You all go to the police in the end... so boring. Should learn a few things from your friend, the Punisher. He's interesting. Not so predictable like the rest of you guys."

"pitchfork isn't really my thing." daredevil commented, his tone may have seemed amused but it was laced with something a bit darker. he didn't need anyone to be intimidated by him, that bit wasn't his job. it was the end result that mattered. "this is the predictable bit. where i ask who you're doing this for, you refuse to give me an answer, and either way i turn you in to the police. are you new to this?"

She had a smile of disdain upon her lips; although the devil outfit caused a dramatic impression, she confessed, it took Nina a lot more than just a visual impact and one's reputation to stay away. "And what are you going to do about it, Horns? I see you've forgotten your pitchfork tonight. Tsk. Too bad."

She watched him with complete admiration when he moved from a rooftop to another with so much ease. She would consider things for a few seconds more before following him, not as habituated with leaping over obstacles around as he seemed to be. But once back with him, she would offer a response: "No, not really. Just went out to explore the other neighborhoods." she needed a fresh air. Something different. A change in routine. Difficult cases tended to drive her nuts. "Really? Awesome things, I hope," she joked around slightly, still wondering what they were doing, but not really asking it.

daredevil only needed to move her away from the scene and, when hearing the vehicle that had the individual inside get closer, he encouraged hawkeye to join him on a different rooftop. they wouldn't need to be there for the last part. "i hope you weren't here for anything important." it seemed to be his way of steadying the conversation again, although perhaps he didn't sound as excited as she had been. "i've been hearing a lot about you."

"Oh? Alright, then," the whole thing was so mysterious, but she would bet everything regarding Daredevil would be like that. She didn't mind to follow him around, even if she didn't have a clue of what was going on, mostly moved by her own curiosity to figure it out. And also, for her trust in the man wearing that devil costume. She trusted Clint judgement, so if he trusted the guy and respected him, so would she — even knowing nothing about him, personally.

matt would argue he could make something of anything. yet, for some reason, her heartbeat was eerily trained. was it subconscious? that was entirely possible, of course, but matt was a pessimist. he couldn't say for sure that she was lying about anything and, even if he did, he'd had no idea what bits weren't true. before his further questioning, the lawer was fine with accepting that perhaps she was telling the truth- because, of course, if she *wasn't*, she was much more of a professional than she had mentioned. or maybe it was all habits based on her past in those areas. matt would keep his mind open with the truth at the forefront. "please." he nodded, appreciative of the braille on the back. "thanks for coming, miss pearce, hopefully we'll be able to help you with this."

And if he was confident, so was Ekaterina. Legal problems weren't good for business: what she did required discretion, and having cops on your tail was basically the opposite of that. The gun was hers, but she couldn't really say that to Murdock -- besides, she was confident it wouldn't carry a single fingerprint of hers: it was the very reason why she was *always* wearing gloves, even if it was suspicious during warmer temperatures. One thing she liked about New York, though, is that a city that has a huge green superhero with a temper wouldn't ever think twice about the woman in the long black coat with gloves and shades. She would only get compared behind her back to Neo from Matrix and they would carry on. "Thanks a lot, Mr. Murdock. Should I leave here one of my business cards for contact?" she slid one of her usual cards, though this one was in braille on the back -- since she'd had the time to prepare herself for this visit.

"that's what we're here for." matt smiled, like he knew of a lot of lawyers that weren't in it for the same reason their firm was, and in that sense perhaps the smile was more empathetic and frustrated. some lawyers had no integrity, he'd gone to college with a lot of them. "i just have to check." he shrugged, before thinking over his next words and thus formulating the plan. "once i call the station and ask more questions, i'll be able to get a proper grasp on your case, then maybe we can talk price. i'll spoil it for you and say you can go ahead and book a holiday for when this blows over." he was clearly confident enough, without even having approached his fellow coworkers on the case. similarly, he was confident they'd get on board. with more hands, the time was split between them, and even less of a cost would be produced.
