“no can do,” laurel said, out stretching her hand to the young woman at her feet. “i saw you take down those guys back there and i gotta say i’m impressed. they were crying like babies. only thing that’d make this more badass is you on your feet at the end of it, so let me help.”

Kate groaned from where she lay on the floor, her hand scrambling to reach for her bow laying a few feet away. "No, no. I'm good. Just ignore me, turn away and don't look back." God, this was embarrassing. Maybe she could pray hard enough for the floor to just swallow her. "I can sense you looking at me! I swear I'll be on my feet in no time at all... Probably."

Jamie was terrified as he raced down the rooftops, just thankful he’d been transported to— wherever he was— with his suit and mask still on and webslingers on his wrists. He just remembered being sucked through some sort of wormhole and being tossed down on the streets of a totally different New York, instantly jumping up onto the nearest fire escape and climbing the rest of the way up to the roof, thankful as ever for the crazy jumping abilities granted to him by the spider bite. He panted as he ran, jumping from roof to roof, too busy looking around for anyone else that might see him to notice the sharp pain in his head from his spider senses— that is, until he was tripping and falling off the building. “Shit!” He yelped, shooting a web and managing to catch the edge of the fire escape with it, saving himself just before he hit the ground. Normally he could pretty easily land on his feet from that height, but he was pretty sure his face had been closer to the ground than his feet before his web had caught, allowing him to lower down to the ground, slumping against the wall for a moment with a hand on his chest and panting.
Then his senses went off, and he opened his eyes and found himself facing an arrow. “Hey, what’s the big idea? I get transported to a different universe and instantly get almost killed twice in a row? How is that fair?” He ducked and leapt in a backflip up onto the roof, peeking over the edge. “Seriously, what gives, lady? And no, I’m not comin’ down ‘til you put that away. I’m the good guy.”

// i’m so sorry for the long-ass starter but i felt like i needed to give context but then i got carried away (like usual)

Jamie was honestly very nervous, but he was hoping that his awkward nature didn’t come across as hostility to her. He watched her like a hawk (no pun intended) as she lowered her weapon, finally leaping down to the ground from the roof and landing easily on his feet, lowering himself with the impact and bracing himself with a hand for maximum shock absorption. “Well… it’s kinda a long story,” he began, rubbing at the back of his neck. “Name’s Wolf Spider. I was on patrol, in my New York, and then this wormhole lookin’ thing opened up next to me and I got sucked in and I don’t remember anything until I got dropped here, in /your/ New York. I, like any reasonable human, was scared because I had no idea what the hell was goin’ on, so I jumped onto the nearest roof to avoid being seen, and I ran. But I guess my spider sense is a bit screwy here, ‘cause it didn’t warn me that I was about to fall off the roof. And that’s when I met you. And here we are.”

In the past Kate had to admit all the spider people she'd met had been rather pleasant. If not a little loud and awkward. Maybe it was a requirement to be socially stunted but decent.

Slowly she lowered her bow, sliding the arrow back into the quiver. "Alright, alright. But I want a full explanation, what the hell are you doing thrashing around like a mad man? Someone could have shot you." She gestured to herself for good measure.

Jamie groaned, wondering how on earth he’d gotten himself into this mess. “Wormhole wasn’t /my/ fault,” he muttered sulkily under his breath, then looked back over the edge, the eyes of his suit no longer narrowed in aggression and his hands held up. “Alright, okay. You got me. Just— put the bow down and I’ll come down there and we’ll talk like civilized human beings, okay? I can explain everything. Except the part I don’t remember. But that’s beside the point. Will you put your weapon away? I’ll even take my webslingers off, see?” He detached them from each of his wrists, holding them up. “There. I’m harmless. Your turn.”
