Question for you all: Would you rather read a story that starts in the middle of some action and then gives backstory throughout the book?

Or would you rather have the backstory told in the first 1-3 chapters, and then the action pick up afterwards? (Not saying the first chapters wouldn't be action packed, of course lol)

Would you rather read a vampire story set in and around World War 2, or one that takes place in and around the American Revolution with some Native American mythology thrown in for some more supernatural backstory?

          Let me know!

@arkham71 Hell, they are immortal after all. Would make for a good series lol

So my wife has been re-watching The Vampire Diaries, and I've finally gotten around to finishing Castlevania. This has really given me the itch to write a vampire novel. Will it be the next Twilight? Doubtful, but I at least want to attempt to outclass it lol.

This leads me to my question: What are some twists or uncommon themes you'd like to see in a vampire story? I'd like to avoid the cliché tropes as much as possible, and I already have an inkling of an idea floating around in my head.

Gothic_Vampyre

@RhysMorington Yep. Plus new enemies just pop outta nowhere. Why? Oh, 'cause MC's got suuuperpowerrrsss

@Gothic_Vampyre I'm honestly completely against that trope lol. I find it kind of a slap in the face to readers, since the problems get magically and arbitrarily solved by the "discovery" of these powers

@RhysMorington Uncommon tropes? I'm sorry, but I'm too lazy for that rn. Buuut, there are some things you could avoid. Like, female human with secret powers she isn't aware of that pop out of nowhere because her great-great grandma was a witch. It's an extremely overused trope. But you could use it if you think you can make it a bit more interesting :)

Do any of you lovely people know where I can get some help designing a good Fantasy book cover? I made one for a project that will be posted soon, but I'm not in love with it.

          Any help is appreciated!

@DreamlandCommunity I have to follow accounts recommended to me lol. It'd be rude not to 0.0 I have really liked your community shops though, and I plan on utilizing a couple of them once I get the first few chapters of my story published

Hey guys! I promise I'm still working to get something posted for you all to read. Life has just been hectic so I've been putting writing on the back burner lol.

Just to have some interaction though (and to show that I'm still here), I have a topic of the day: Werewolf stories. Just overplayed romance cliches, or can they be more?

I'm sure we're all familiar with the werwolf story cliche where most of them are dedicated romances. My question is, what would you do to turn this trope on it's head to make a new take on a werewolf story?

Hey guys!

So I'm writing the first chapter of my story (which feels like it's taking forever lol) and I had a question.

Without giving too much away, the main character of my story is dead (don't worry, this happens right at the start, so it's not like a surprise twist or anything) but should I start the story with him already dead and then sprinkle in tales from his life through dialogue and flashbacks, or should I start off with him alive, give some brief backstory, and then show him dying?

Good luck writing the book! I look forward to reading it!

@Gothic_Vampyre I was leaning that way myself. With the plot of the story, giving his life story through some conflicts that arise later is better I believe
