I am a firm believer that racism and discrimination isn't inherited, it is taught. Children can be very blunt at a young age, but it is because most of them lack that subtlety that they can truly see past physical things like skin color and judge people based on character instead.
Children often approach the world with a kind of unfiltered honesty, they notice differences, but they don’t naturally assign value or judgment to them. It’s usually the environment around them, parents, peers, media, institutions, that teaches them whether to view those differences as positive, negative, or neutral.
I really wanted to both showcase this point when bringing the aliens onto Earth in my story.

I too like the dinner scenes. I never really had family dinners like that in my life. My mom and dad never really got along, so my mom just made the food and left the rice for me to put into a bowl myself, same thing with the meat and soup. I always took it back to my room to eat and watch videos so that I didn't have to hear them arguing over every little thing. So in the words of Red Skull from Infinity War:
"I guide others to a treasure I cannot possess."
