Girl disappeared for an year

HEY guys, I’m back after a really long time. So sorry if I haven’t responded to any of you messages, I was just so busy with exams and schooll work, but I’m here and yet again with another problem. :(
          
          So, I need help, like really bad. 
          Here’s the story:
          
          A guy at my school, I’ve been going to school with him since forever but we never really talked, he’s a year younger than me and one day he just started talking to me. It was random but i enjoyed talking to him, he started teasing me and everyday we would hang out at school together. Long time later, we used to take t everyday, Well HE texted me everyday, every hour and pretty much the whole school knew we liked each other. I used to hang out with some other guys too and he would always tell me that i like those guys. He would mention it during text and kept asking me about my crush. 
          
          One day though, he just stopped texting me, that was like in December. I didn’t ask in him why or text him because i thought it would annoy him. I was really sad and at school he would barely talk to me. Though his friends always made jokes about something about me and he would shut them up. The term ended and we didn’t talk again.
          
          
          
          Present time: it’s been months since that, i got over him but all of a sudden he’s coming back into my life. He used to hang out whit this girl a lot (one of my friends) and she asked him out but he said he doesn’t want a relationship. I always catch him looking at me from afar, all the time. The amount of times I’ve caught him staring is creepy. And then he would start stealing my stuff playfully and all that. He also shows off and blushes whenever I’m around. 
          
          I started talking to him forgetting what happened last year but one of my guy friends told me that he prob still likes me. He just stopped talking because he thought I wasn’t interested and wanted to lose feelings for me. Is that true???
          
          I wanna ask him irl what happened and why he stopped talking to me. SHould i do that? Or just move on?

"Have we met before?" I ask him, not looking up to meet his eyes.
          
          He hesitates for a second but replies, "no, I would remember you if we did."
