I enjoy reading and writing. Fantasy, Science Fiction and Space Opera are my favorite genres. Additionally, I like collecting signed books, manuscripts, screenplays and other collectables. These things may or may not have any value, but if I like something and personally value it - it is added to my collection. I like to think of myself as a "Collector" but I might actually be a "Packrat."
Around March of 2021, I [finally] read and fell in love with the Skyward Series and for some crazy reason, I felt compelled to write fanfiction about Jorgen and Spensa... Mostly, because [as much as I love Brandon Sanderson's writing] I feel like he left his readers high & dry with Starsight. He wrote AMAZING characters in Skyward (besides just Spensa Nightshade) and then took her, Doomslug & M-Bot to another location and missed out on some good opportunities to utilize characters that are loved from the first book. So, my writing project is my therapeutic 'patch' to resolve the gap between "what I wanted for Spensa" and "what Brandon Sanderson delivered in Book two" - It's where my imagination goes when I think about his brilliant characters. I've been toiling away at writing down my thoughts for several months.
TBH, I was thrilled to discover that other people have done the same thing! I'm an adult, so I've endured many **eye rolls** from my family and friends for writing a fanfiction story. At least when I can read things other Skyward/Starsight fans have written, I realize that I'm not all alone... and [strangely] even though many of the fanfic stories are told in unique voices, the majority of them (and mine) have similar plot points and trajectories. Hopefully Brandon Sanderson isn't a "subvert expectations" type of author because it is a bit obvious what Skyward/Starsight fans are hoping for!
