Hey Hannah, I’m on a reread and I love your characterization of everyone except for one thing. I’m rereading year five and it just kind of hit me that James kind of always loses to Snape in every confrontation (outside of Lily). On one level I understand in a way because of how Snape is with magic but on the other hand, with how James has been described in canon, I feel like in an actual duel James could beat him. I know Snape tells Harry that his father wouldn’t duel him unless it was four on one but I really feel like that was bitterness and not actual truth. I mean James and Sirius were known as the cleverest and most talented students in the the school when they were there. Again I’m not criticizing because your series has scratched an itch that I’ve had since Deathly Hallows came out and I’m excited for more but I do feel like James got kind of shafted when it came to actually fighting Snape. Sorry for the long rant, I’ve had a little bit more than I should have to drink lol. Channeling a little bit of Sirius right now

Honestly I wrote year five almost 5-6 years ago - if I had it to do over, James would have been a lot more of a prat in the early years anyway including bullying/dueling Snape a lot more often with a lot nastier outcomes. However, that is a view that I have matured into having looking back from where we are now over a long period of time to think on it.
