10: This one isn’t characterisation, but instead music. In Twilight Princess, the Hero’s Shade’s theme (whom is implied to be the Hero of Time based off in game dialogue) has a sort of trumpet in the middle. I believe that it’s a similar sound to Skull Kid’s horn in Twilight Princess.
Another music cameo is the Hyrule Field night theme. There is a sound byte that sounds the exact same as Malon’s singing from Ocarina of Time. (Instead of Epona’s Song, it’s notes that eerily remind me of the OoT title theme)

OcarinaOfAngst

@HylianGuard yep! The “sun’s song” (basically the “its morning now” song) plays before the Twilight Princess field theme plays. Love that.

Oh yeah. And when it turns from night to day it plays another song from oot.

9: Ganondorf wasn’t born evil, of course. Just like Link and Zelda, he was dragged into his life he likely didn’t want. He wasn’t completely evil, but likely Koume and Kotake brainwashed him growing up.

HylianGuard

@OcarinaOfAngst Ah, you make a good point!

@HylianGuard yeah I know. I’ve played nearly all the games. But just because Ganondorf was born into evil because the curse doesn’t mean he was from the beginning, no child is born wanting evil.

8: Malon uses singing as a coping mechanism. In the child timeline, she sings at night at a Castle Town Market. She’s alone, and a child. She’s scared, so she sings. In the adult timeline, prior to Ingo’s defeat in rescuing Epona, she only sang at night I’m the corral. She doesn’t want Ingo to know she’s singing.
Once you save Epona, she sings all the time. It’s no longer really a coping thing, instead, it’s a symbol of freedom and hope. At least that’s how I view it.

HylianGuard

That actually makes sense! Cool!

7: This one isn’t Link cantered, but instead Sheik.
Sheik slowly opens up to Link more throughout the game. After each dungeon, he takes more time to leave, grows more casual with what he says, and doesn’t distance himself as much towards the game. It’s is something a lot of people ignore, and it saddens me.
He doesn’t immediately open up, nor does he not make any progress at all.
I think the post dungeon cutscene where Sheik finally let go was after the Water Temple. As the cutscene where you learn the Nocturne of Shadow is a lot more casual than the others.

6: though it doesn’t happen in game, there’s no way Link immediately mastered everything, the game makes it clear through text that you shouldn’t have mastered everything straight away. Whether it be the Great Deku Tree asking you if you’re sure you’re ready, or Ingo “letting” you practice riding until you’re ready to race him.
Be sure to remember this! Link didn’t know how to wield a sword or ride a horse. Or shoot a bow immediately. Practice and failure is valid :)

OcarinaOfAngst

@HylianGuard yeah, I’ve just read a lot of fics where he’ll find a weapon and know immediately how to use it. Or with Epona, for example.

Video game mechanics, what can you do? Like, how does he instantly shoot with perfect accuracy when obtaining the bow for the first time? Ive always wanted a game where you become more skillful as you use each new weapon or do new activities

5: Link isn’t an aggressive child. He’s a very quiet boy who takes a bit of time to open up to people, but when he does, he gets very excited. When Mido picks on him, he doesn’t resort to “violence” unless he’s defending someone else or if it was a more serious thing. If Mido is just teasing, he’d just ignore him, but if Mido got up in his face, he’d probably argue or fight back.
And then he’d get blamed by the other Kokiri, unfortunately. They pretty much all side with Mido.

4: Since he’s young, Link doesn’t quite understand his emotions. It may seem like he’s good at controlling them, but in truth he demonstrated understand what they are to begin with. This leads to him being confused when he’s upset about loss; he doesn’t know what it is he’s feeling.
