"Your Uncle Nat would make her birthday card, and his presents for her were also usually handmade."

"Dids you also make Grandma's birthday present?" Mina asked him. "When I was too little to really make a present myself, my brother would let me help make whatever present he was making your Grandma that year." Puppet answered.

Noticing the next street sign, Puppet lead his daughters down the street in question as he talked. "And when I was old enough where he didn't need to help me, I'd go out and pick her a bunch of the prettiest blossoms I could find for a birthday bouquet." The Minireenas all smiled at the story. "And me, your Uncle Nat and GrandPy all signed her birthday card which would be on her breakfast tray."

"Dids Grandma had'ed a springtime birthday?" Lucette wondered. "So you coulds pick blossoms for her?" Her dad nodded. "Clever guess, Sugarplum. You Grandma's birthday was in the spring." Lucette beamed at herself, her skipping stride picking up a bit more. Puppet smirked, while Mina, Tina and Rosette began skipping after her when they realized she was getting ahead of them all.

"Hey! Wait for us!" Tina called after her. Lucette barely so much as glanced over her shoulder at her sisters, her stride picking up a little more in speed. "Can't catch me!"

Their parents didn't need to stand from the couch to meet their daughters, as the Minireenas quickly scampered up onto the couch beside their parents. "Lovebug, what's happened?" Puppet asked, giving Rosette a concerned look. "We has something super extra important we's gotta ask you!"

            "What is it?"

"When's is GrandPy's birthday?" There was a brief pause following Rosette's question. The worry he and Ballora had been hit with when hearing the urgency in their daughter's voice melted away instantly, as they clued in on her dramatics.

"Ah," Puppet hummed. Ballora gestured for her daughters to sit on her lap as she could now rest her legs on the couch again, then she, like the four, brought her attention back to her husband. They watched as her took a look out towards the kitchen—craning his neck a little to catch a glance of the calendar pinned up on the side of the fridge.

Then, turning back to his family on the couch, Puppet answered, "In three days." The Minireenas' eyes were wide again, while Ballora's jaw fell slightly agape in her surprise. "Mare!" She teasingly scolded, lightly smacking his shoulder. "Three days? Seriously?"

"We's gotta start plannin' him's party now!" Mina noted with a shake of her head. To which her mother, and her sisters, nodded in agreement. "Oh, we absolutely do." Ballora said in turn.

Small Freedom AU announcement!

This weekend is my end-of-month writing day, which like usual, means I'll be working on a holiday special instead of a main title Freedom AU fic. I also just wanted to make an extra announcement to this.

'Remember When?' will be continuing on August 9th, 2 weeks from Saturday. This is because I'm going to be on a weekend trip for the weekend of the 3rd, so I won't have any chance to write. Instead, I'll just take a break that week.

That's all, have a lovely rest of your week. Thanks for reading!

"Nice goin', Junior!" Jessie cheered, thoroughly amused by her twin brother. Plushy and MK began laughing once their racing hearts slowed to normal again, and at the same time, the kids were all approached by yet another person. "Everyone alright over here?"
"Yeah, Aunt 'Lora!" Luca replied, giving Ballora a thumbs up from his seat. Ballora curiously glanced over all the kids on the playground equipment, and was met with a few more thumbs up. She hummed. "Alright, just checking." She said to them, returning to the park bench—where Foxy now sat, too. Having just returned to the park with Junior and JJ.
Paying the grown ups no further mind, the attentions were back on the Minireenas again. "What're you guys talking about?" JJ wondered, making her way onto the monkey bars with Jessie and Rosette. "Minis are trying to tell us a story about their Grandma." Luca explained, voice raised enough to be heard from his spot.
"We know she made flower crowns on the first day of summer, but then we don't know if she also made flower bracelets or like little grassy baskets, also." Plushy explained next. JJ and Junior, understandibly, looked puzzled by the explanation. "Our Daddy tolded us the story the other day," Rosette began. "We's are tryna remember what the story was..."
"Oh," JJ hummed. Rosette and Jessie then watched as she stood up and balanced on two bars, and cupped her hands to her mouth. "Aunt 'Lora?" Ballora and Foxy both looked over at JJ, with Foxy answering her call before Ballora could.

          "Like Uncle Ennard?"

"Pretty much." Ballora said in place of their aunt—who was quite obviously holding back a snicker at the question. "Just without the red nose and the party hat." Lucette and Mina paid their aunt little mind as she recomposed herself and adjusted her hold of the two in her arms.

"Was they ballerinas like you, Momma?" Tina asked. To that, her mother gave a half nod. "They did ballet sometimes. But do you know what they were really good at?" The four shook their heads 'no'. "Tap dancing!" The answer elicited some amused giggles from the Minireenas for a moment. Enough that even their mother and aunt laughed with them a little.

Another question came up when everyone's laughter settled. "Do you's remember when you got your locket, Momma?" Rosette wondered next. Her mother hummed. "I do remember," She said. "Ells, would you also remember when they gave it to me or were you too little, still...?"

The Minireenas promptly glanced back at their aunt—who had a narrow-eyed expression as though trying to think very hard. "I... am not sure." She admitted. "Tell the girls the story, and maybe then I'll remember some of it...?" Ballora nodded. "Alright, then." Her daughters' attention was back on their mother again—the four eagerly anticipating her story.

"You's drinked hot chocolate while wrapped up in her big quilt?" Tina questioned. Puppet smirked. "With a straw, Cupcake." He added. "Ohh."

Their dad continued. "Though, I feel like I can remember much more times where I would notice Nat needing some comfort from our mom." The detail brought on an odd expression from their GrandPy as he, too, listened to their dad, though Rosette couldn't tell what it was.

She brought her attention back to her dad who next said, "Your Uncle Nat would get nightmares a lot when we were kids, and since we shared a room I got woken in the night up by his screaming often." He explained, almost a sad look about him as he recounted the memory.

"Did's Grandma make hot chocolate even if it was the middle of bedtime?" Tina wondered. Their dad nodded. "She would. Your grandma always said something nice and warm to drink always helped her feel better, and it did always help us."

          ──── ────

It'd been another night of being jolted awake by a nearly piercing scream, which had devolved into hysterical sobs by the time their mother had made the quick trip to their bedroom from across the hall. His own small heart had since stopped thundering away in his chest, but unlike the other nights like this, he'd been unable to fall asleep after his brother had been brought out of their bedroom.
