Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So be on your way -Dr Seuss.
I turned nineteen a few years ago. I wasn't looking forward to being a year older. It's not that I wanted to die. It's just that I had several goals that I wanted to achieve as part of a five year plan.
One of such was that I wanted to finish five books by the time I was seventeen. Seventeen passed me by, eighteen followed and now that I'm 21, I can't help but wonder if I made the right goal.
A few years ago, I used to live, eat and breath foreign fiction. (Non-Nigerian). I used to write it too. But now that I am 21, I see the world differently. I am more aware of who I am, what I want and what I stand for.
At this point, I'm not interested in finishing five books before age twenty. No. It'll be nice to finish one before I'm twenty but I'm okay with the pace I'm living.
Today is MY day: I'm 21 and I won't be 21 forever. I won't spend another year worrying about completing my goals.
Your MOUNTAIN is waiting: I will write about my country. About myself. About what I have experienced. About the stories I have and love. These stories are waiting.
So be on your WAY: The full stop that ends this write up is the start of a nineteen year journey to face my mountain.
