Hey peeps

Needed some recommendations for Historical Fiction with strong and layered characters and a plot highly focusing on political upheavals.

No excessive emotional drama. No lovey-dovey characters. No overdramatic family. No toxic love story and no smut. I want the characters to be feel like they're real.

Coz when I search it on HISTORICAL FICTION TAG all I am getting is the books flooded with the above-mentioned stuff and I am literally fed up!!! -_-

The story South Of Guadarramma by Mario Porto fills the criterion of the books I wanted to read. Does anyone have any suggestions?

@ni19534 once I had been through this and almost added 600+ books in my private library within a month and majority of those had been unpublished by the authors later but it still resides in my library bcz of its secret magic power lol.

I believe that South India's history is vast enough to influence many historical fiction authors. Like the matrilineal system followed by the dravidians or the weird system of succession followed by the Kerala noble families or the life of Rudramadevi or that southern regions which never bended it's knee before any of the gigantic empire etc.. it really do have a vast source material to build another Game of thrones world. But sadly it isn't getting much needed attention. Most of the historical fictions here has great influence from movies of Sanjay Leela Bhansali or tv series of ekta which were mostly about Rajputs and Mughals.

@Laviest_cool @Paracosmic_soul Same situation. I keep recklessly adding books to my reading lists but never find the time to read them. Some authors even thank me for adding their books and I feel so bad because they think that I'm going to read them soon. But only if they knew lol.

Karikalan actually seems so so promising you know. I can't wait to start it either. Being a South Indian it feels good to see a book about South Indian kings. Otherwise it's always Rajputs and Mughals (I don't have anything personal against these dynasties though but just saying).
