The mind is an empty, vast, open void of black and darkness. To be a human is to create worlds in that void, with knowledge and experience. To be a writer is to bring the landscape to paper, to put the worlds in a tangible, almost real form. To be a human is to learn from those worlds, to shape your own landscapes and creatures, to interpret one world and influence another. To be you, is to escape into that world, to find freedom and compassion, love and care in that world. To be alive is to know that void will catch you and bring life to your thoughts, You just need to step off the ledge.
