Reed leaned back slightly in his chair, eyes narrowing in thought before darting toward the corner of the lab where a mannequin stood draped in half-assembled blue fabric. He reached over to shuffle a few scattered schematics, revealing one with Johnny’s name scrawled at the top.

“Ah—no, I didn’t forget. It’s right there. I’ve been refining the thermal dispersion matrix; I want this one to be able to withstand your… let’s call it ‘overzealous’ flame output without needing repairs every other week.” His gaze flicked back to Johnny, the hint of a smirk forming. “Unless, of course, you’d prefer something purely decorative. In that case, I can have it done by lunch.”

hands are placed behind his back, neatly, which was uncommon for johnny, strides taking on a determined motion as he moved closer towards reed — each step filling the lab's walls. "the suit. mine specifically. did you forget about it? i understand — you're busy and all that, along with my little nephew, but i was hoping you'd gotten around to it lately." the blonde spoke in a calm yet loud tone, finally stopping by his desk with a grin.

Reed glanced up from the array of blueprints spread across his desk, a pen still tucked between his fingers. He adjusted his glasses, the faintest crease of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

“Forget? Johnny, my memory is better than my time management—though I’ll admit the latter’s been under some strain lately. What exactly am I supposed to have forgotten?”

Reed’s lips curved into a quiet, knowing smile at her jab about the coffee, and he gave her hand a gentle squeeze before releasing it.

“Something I probably shouldn’t be working on this late,” he confessed, glancing toward the half-assembled construct on the workbench. “It’s… a spatial mapping array—designed to track dimensional instability before it breaches into our plane. Think of it like… an early warning system for reality.”

He tilted his head slightly, studying her face. “I know it sounds excessive, but after everything we’ve seen, I’d rather be overprepared than blindsided again.” A pause, softer now. “And if I can finish it quickly, it means I spend more nights with you… instead of down here.”

            * sue reciprocated the action with a mustered smile . it was always a soothing thing to know her husband was near . there were more than enough nights early on when reed would be stressed , spending more && more time in his workshop . sue held pride for herself that she was able to get her husband out of his head - most days . *

Reed’s eyes softened as he stepped away from his workstation, the low whir of machinery fading behind him.

“I can’t say I envy the trade-off,” he admitted, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Though I do remember you pulling all-nighters with a stack of papers and a pot of coffee like it was a competitive sport.”

He reached for her hand, warm and steady. “It’s different now… but it’s still you. Brilliant, determined—you’re just solving a different kind of equation.”
