The metal in Kayla's palm felt cold, despite her holding it for an extended time. Something was off about this stranger, something familiar that terrified her, simply because it was familiar.
The man had been moving in nearly exactly the same way that she had when they ran into each other, guns blazing– likely attempting to achieve the same goal– but she had no idea who he was.
And it seemed like the same thoughts were running through his head, seeing as neither of them had shot, but they were circling each other in silence in the same stance.
❛ Who are you? Why are you here? ❜ Kayla, under the alias Nox, was looking for someone she'd been tasked to kill for some reason that she didn't want to worry about.

@EchoProtocol- Kayla didn't know how Hydra worked, how they were trained, but she could take a guess, and it probably would be extremely close. Close to how she was trained, because they were taught to do the same thing: Disappear. The Company wasn't Hydra. Hydra wasn't The Company, but they were built around each other with extreme precision that could only be seen as familiar by the soldiers themselves. “Not military.” She agreed, keeping her gun raised a moment longer than the man, because she was trained to keep guard. It seemed as if he was, too, because when her eyes drifted for a brief moment, it was to his blood-soaked side that he kept turned away from her. The former soldier wasn't open to people. She was tightly guarded around everything about herself, from everyone due to the trauma she endured for decades, but this man knew what she'd been trained to accomplish. She closed her eyes for a moment as she took a breath, heart rate pounding. “They did succeed.” Kayla spoke with an intense sincerity, eyes narrowing slightly as she watched him. “I could say the same for you.”

《 @fatedbrns 》 Elias didn’t answer immediately. The warehouse fell into an uneasy silence, broken only by the buzz of failing lights and the occasional drip of water through the cracked ceiling. His pistol remained steady, though his finger rested alongside the trigger instead of on it. She moved with unsettling precision. Too disciplined. Too controlled. Not HYDRA. Not S.H.I.E.L.D. Something else. His eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly as she shifted her stance. It wasn’t the movement that caught his attention—it was how familiar it felt. Conditioning. He’d spent enough of his life surrounded by it to recognise it anywhere. A dull ache spread through his side beneath his torn jacket where blood slowly seeped through the fabric. He ignored it, subtly turning his injured side away from her. “…You’re trained,” he said evenly. “Not military” his gaze never left hers “someone taught you to erase yourself” a brief pause “they almost succeeded” for the first time, Elias lowered his weapon just enough to show he wasn’t looking for a fight. “I wasn’t sent here for you” He lowered the muzzle of his pistol another fraction “If I had been…” his expression remained unreadable “…we wouldn’t still be having this conversation.”
