Welcome to a new year! For many of us, January feels like a fresh start. If the previous year was awesome for you (we hope it was), then January might feel like the party is still going. Wherever you find yourself this month, the Bootcamp Mentors acknowledge you and invite you to help yourself to the appetizers.

While it may appear as if we have shut off the lights and let the deejay go, we’re just hibernating and preparing our minds and bodies for another fantastic Wattys bootcamp season. So stay tuned to this space, and while you’re here, take a look around. You might be surprised at the cool stuff you’ll find. And we promise there are more good things to come.

Are you plugging away at your next story? A story you might enter into the Wattys? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a cheering section in your corner? Folks to help you stay focused on the task? Well, you’ve come to the right place. The Bootcamp Mentors community supports writers!

Although the camp is currently quiet while our team spends time with family and reflection (and reading our to-do pile), we still want to keep everyone engaged and motivated to write each day. So we created a new feature - Write For The Wattys; an ongoing resource for writers working on their Wattys story.

Have a suggestion for our admin team? Ideas for future workshops? Your opportunity to share them with us just opened up. Looking for story feedback? There’s a chapter devoted to sharing Wattys story links. And, of course, we have stickers! Let’s keep the momentum going.

Hey, there! I know it's been a while, but I'm interested in joining the Mentees program when it finally comes on in March. I hope that I will have enough time to enter the program when the submissions period comes on. I am on my last chapters for the second version of Jinx (Neko Inventor Book 1), and I hope that it will be accepted for the Wattys Bootcamp Mentorship next year when I submit it for submissions.

@meroceank8921 The workshops focus more on preparing your Wattys submission, such as writing a great story blurb, logline and summary. However, one of the weeks is devoted to something related to storytelling. This year we focused on character arcs, and past years we delved into dialogue and POV. As far as editing, that is something you will receive more of if you and your story are chosen by a mentor.

@BootcampMentors Thank you so much! I am nearly finished with the first draft of the second version of my book, so to speak, and I’m wondering if you do the workshops based on editing a book for the Mentor submissions?

@meroceank8921 We hope you can finish your Wattys story by the time we open submissions to our mentors. However, even if you don't make that deadline (typically mid-May), you can still join us for our workshops leading up to submissions (mid-March thru April). We look forward to seeing you then.

Thirty days have November, and for our BCM community, those days have been filled with lots of writing. We saw amazing feats of finger tapping strength, and heard the woeful tales of falling asleep at the keyboard and missing a word count goal. But mostly we’ve seen happy emojis.

A huge THANKS goes out to @PrettyInPunkBC for collaborating with us and sharing their enthusiasm and expertise. You’re Awesome! We also want to thank @Wattpad for supporting this community of writers during NaNo. And THANKS to everyone who joined us for this initiative. You all deserve to be celebrated for making it so special.

Speaking of celebrations, we have dedicated a Milestone Makers Showcase chapter in our NaNo Bootcamp book to the folks who went the extra mile and logged over 10,000 words during November. Congrats everyone!

If you participated, and your name is missing from one of our milestone lists, be sure to share your final word count with us, even if you didn’t post your NaNo story on Wattpad. Your efforts deserve to be recognized. You can do that here or in the #milestone-makers Discord channel.

BootcampMentors

@AlisiaJackson Hello, so sorry for the late reply. We've been in L.A. at the Wattys for the past few days. We suggest you take a look at our Profile Guide. You will find information about our program there. You are welcome to join our discord server at any time (link in bio). Currently, we are all working hard on our NaNoWriMo stories, but the actual Wattys bootcamp will begin again in March of 2023. Let us know if you have any more questions.
