[~] Time to share some more facts ❤️
This is wayy more longer and it's a comparison with two scenes.
Buckle up children .
The parallels on these two scenes are so interesting.
1. In both of them Zuko is fretting before being reunited with Ozai / Iroh
2. Mai and Katara both approach him. Mai stays slightly behind him while Katara crouches down to his level , trying to make eye contact . It's also interesting that Mai stays on his unscarred side , Katara on the other hand approaches his scarred side . And I think that's a deliberate choice because as the conversation unfolds , we really see Mai not being able to address/ acknowledge the emotional scars Zuko carries , whil Katara accepts those as part of him and offers comfort .
Mai: aren't you cold ?
Katara: are you okay ?
Mai sees he's bothered but is uncomfortable to point it out , so she goes with a more general question about his physical well being instead . While Katara goes straight for the emotions .
Zuko also responds differently. In the first scene (with Mai) he's talking a bit in general , fishing for an opening to unload , but unable to specifically name his fears . But in response to Kataras direct question ,his response is much more honest . Talking very specifically about his feelings/fears . He's not making eye contact in either scene though.
Zuko to Mai: I've got a lot on my mind. It's been so long. Over three years since I was home. I wonder what has changed . I wonder how I've changed.
Zuko to Katara : no , I'm not okay. My uncle hates me. I know it . He loved me and supported me in every way he could and I still turned against him. How can I even face him ?
