Feb 13 released from rehab center and Feb 14 admitted to a trauma hospital. What has happened since then was Feb 15 was ortho trauma surgeon did surgery where removed one plate and several screws. Plus removed dead skin. It was 4 hour surgery. He attached a wound vac to area to remove the bacteria. Been giving a lot of antibiotics in IV.
February 16 vascular surgeon did amgeogram surgery to map out blood vessels for plastic surgeon who will have to skin grafts over area where dead skin was to my area wound vac is cleaning.
Feb 20 the ortho trauma surgeon did surgery to replace the wound vac plus did culture in area to see if bacteria is still there. It took a little over an hour.
Today is Feb 21, 2024
Friday- February 23 repeating Feb 20 surgery
Tuesday- Feb 27 if no bacteria showing in previous culture will have the major surgery. If bacteria is still there will repeat Feb 20 surgery. If no bacteria will have the major surgery surgery.if bacteria still there will continue antibiotic regiment. Then Tuesday and Friday will be either repeat cleaning until bacteria is gone or major surgery day.
Major surgery is...
Orthopedic Trauma surgeon and team will rebuild that ankle and place rods in leg/ankle area. (even though lower leg had the break they refer to it as an ankle break.) This surgery will take 4 to 5 hours.
Then there will be a switch over of surgical teams which will take around 30 minutes or so.
Finally will the plastic surgeons who will do the skin grafting in me. This will take 4 to 5 hours also.
Plus be in pre-op an hour or more. Then post op will be a minimum of 2 hours.
Overall major surgery day will be a minimum 12-1/2 hours before being sent to my room.
Hope is surgery will be February 27 and not later dates.

I am still in the rehab center. I am moving around in a wheelchair since doctors are still having me on no weight baring status on foot.
The doctor did remove 53 staples and 6 stitches. They ordered for a wound specialist to look at one spot on my ankle/leg.
The rehab is basically working on my range of motion. Will admit I am not getting as much writing done but health comes first.

December 3, I took a fall on the steps.
December 5, discovered I had a broken toe
December 15, I was walking on sidewalk to my motel room and stumbled into a decorative rock area. When my foot hit it- CRACK. I took a ride in ambulance to hospital.
I had broken toe, foot, ankle and femor bone. Was admitted into hospital. Foot and leg were swollen.
December 18, I had surgery. Doctor place 2 plates plus a few screws in me. It took 53 staples to close it up.
December 22, I was release from hospital. Then took a six hour drive back home.
Surgeon stated he feels I had a hidden fracture. I showed him the X-ray of my toe and him and radiologist looked at it and could see only the small fracture on toe. He stated I still think your stumble caused the shattering of an undetectable fracture.
I am now on do not walk or point preasure on that foot, but he did have PT show me how to tap it for balance when using a walker. Then I hop on good foot.

UPDATE- Dec 29 went back into hospital. Was told I had an infection. January 3 was transferred to a rehab center. I have been told do not be surprised if it is closer to three or four months before I can bare weight on my foot.

Right now I feel bad and full of pity. I hate feeling that way.
Then hubby informed me he really doesn’t feel like celebrating Christmas or opening gifts. He will be glad when this holiday is over.
This made me feel like I ruined Christmas so am feeling worse. As stated I just hate feeling this way.
Surgeon in Ohio said it will be at least 2 months before I can put pressure on foot, but has me toe tapping with injured foot for balance.
On Tuesday I talk to case management to arrange a nurse for home.
Wednesday see doctor and see about all medical equipment I will need for home.
January 2- get test done
January 4- see surgeon. I do not know if I will get staples removed then or not. It just looks ugly

@ArdenTownsend oof, hope you feel better. Ironically I had surgery on my foot too. Mine was to remove a large bone spur though. I've only just been cleared to walk on it limitedly.
