@AliKatMeow if i know one thing about myself is that i read something good once in a blue moon. i've just been rereading that instead. literally decided to read something new only for it to be the worst thing i've read this year. i finished but i didn't have fun.

That always sucks. Anymore, I’ve just started abandoning stories I don’t like and try to find ones I enjoy instead. Hope you’re able to find some good stories soon!

I feel like modern day art in any shape or form will never advance until we stop rewarding mediocrity. With literature, for example, it seems to be the most bottom of barrel books that should have never made it past the author's laptop that get published and become best sellers. If the metric to become a successful artist is to be somewhat not absolutely terrible, while overshadowing actually great pieces of art, then I'm afraid we'll be stuck in this limbo of bad portrayed as great art.

I'm also not saying that everything needs to be deep. Some things should just exist to bring joy to people and not necessarily be a comment on human suffering or nature, or an exploration of deep themes, though I do wish people stopped trying to brand their fluffy little pieces as a deep exploration of something. You can write, sing, paint whatever something just for it to be fun, I do it sometimes, but it should still be good.
