I did not expect you to be here. It's... almost worrying, actually... I wasn't gonna shoot you, promise.

She could tell he was thinking about saying something, simply by the way he was looking at her, and she was gentle —but firm —on the way she looked back at him. There's no convincing her there, Hawkeye. You've found someone whose determination could only rival your own! She softened it up with a small and tired smile, then, before shaking her head to him. "I know. But I wanted to. I know how you superheroes can be," she proceeded to voice out her thoughts from earlier, then: "When was your last meal? A real one, snacks don't count." she quirked an eyebrow, as if she could just tell he lived of protein bars, even without knowing he lived of protein bars specifically. "When do you pause to look after yourself, so you can keep on doing your good work and helping people?" she narrowed her eyes at him in mock judgement. "The answer to these questions, well... they justify why I wanted to do this for you. You accepting to help me or not. Sorry for breaking in, though. I just didn't know how else to contact you— any other way would've been better, I know! But I'm a work in progress, don't judge me and I won't judge your poor eating habits."

he looked back at her like he was going to say something to reassure her that he didn't work with debts, not for things like this, but he closed his mouth and frowned instead. she was resolute, even if she didn't need to be, and he would silently communicate that this wasn't about needing to get anything in return. this was his job, it's why he's *here*. he needs to give back— even if just to undo the things he's done. "you didn't have to make me anything, by the way." it had been the first thing he'd eaten today, so he wouldn't turn down the offer, gesturing for her to continue to help herself in the meantime.

"I'll be forever in your debt," she answered, not breaking the eye contact he made with her, as a way of also letting him know that she meant it— and that there was no convincing her that she owed him nothing. Trust, loyalty, honesty— those things were important to her, and even if she didn't know him well, she could tell they were important to him, too. As well as doing the right thing... she, too, wanted to do the right thing. She was already on her own path of making amends for her past. "All right," she grabbed her switchblade— and phone— and pocketed them. "I can wait you to finish dinner first, though... if you'd like." who knows, these superheroes... they look after everyone, but they often forget about themselves. It wouldn't surprise her if this was the first *actual* meal he had today. Prepared by his former, unwilling enemy... life is crazy, huh?
