(Manga) Yuugi x (Famous) Reader
The Idol
Inspired by chapter two from the manga
“I heard rumor that there’s a famous idol who transferred to this school,” Honda said one morning at school
Jounouchi grinned, “If I can figure out who it is, I can take a picture of them and they’ll pay me not to release it!”
“Jounouchi, that’s blackmail!” Anzu exclaimed.
“It’s making money.”
‘It’s illegal!”
While his friends were arguing, Yuugi couldn’t help but think to himself, ‘I wonder who the idol is.’
Later on, the gang was eating lunch outside. It seemed like an average day. Honda and Anzu were teasing Jounouchi while Yuugi laughed along. Currently, the blonde was complaining about how he had no idea who the so called ‘idol’ was. “It serves you right for wanting to exploit them for money,” Anzu said. Jounouchi merely scoffed.
“For all we know, there isn’t even an idol here. It was probably just a rumor started by some twelve years,” he said.
“What would an idol be doing here anyway?” Honda asked. It was then he noticed Anzu looking over his shoulder in disbelief. “Uh, Anzu? Is everything alright?”
“T-that girl…” she whispered.
“Hmm?” all three of the guys asked as they turned to where she was looking. They saw a h/c girl sitting on a bench eating her lunch.
“What about her?” Jounouchi asked.
“You mean you don’t know?” Anzu whispered, not taking her eyes off the girl, “That’s F/n L/n, a famous singer online from (home country)! She’s only 16 and has already made two albums! She’s also a feminist and has started several charities for homeless animals and children in foster care. She’s my idol.”
“Then what’s she doing here?” Honda asked. Anzu shrugged.
“I don’t know. Maybe she transferred because she’s too well known in her home country?” She suddenly glared at Jounouchi, who had just selected the camera feature on his phone. “Don’t you even attempt it! She probably deals with that one a daily basis!” While Anzu continued to chew him out, Yuugi kept watching the girl. Anzu said she was pretty well known in (home country) and really successful. She must be really kind to have created those charities. Part of him wanted to go meet her, but he was too shy. The warning bell then rang, giving them five minutes to get to class. ‘Oh well,’ he thought, ‘Maybe I’ll meet her another time.’
The rest of the day, Yuugi found it difficult to pay attention in class. His mind kept drifting back to F/n. Anzu said she was her idol, so she must be really awesome. He really did want to meet her and part of him regretted not talking to her at lunch, but he couldn’t help his shyness.
The last class of the day was study hall. Since he had finished all of his homework, unlike Jounouchi who had slept most of last period, Yuugi didn’t have much to do. He planned on going through his duel deck to improve it when he felt a light tap on his shoulder. Turning around, he found himself face to face with F/n L/n. “Hello,” you said with a kind smile, “I was told you have Geometry fourth block?” Yuugi, still in shock, could only nod. Your smile grew. “I have that class too, but was excused for, eh, personal reasons. Could you possibly fill me in on what we learned and the assignment?” Yuugi smiled back.
“Sure,” he said. You sat down in the seat next to him and he showed you his notes, which you copied, and explained the assignment. He found himself able to relax, though he was still bit nervous talking to you, with you being famous and all. It didn’t take him long to explain the assignment and you caught on rather quickly. It only took you about ten minutes to finish your homework. It was then you noticed his deck.
“Is that a Duel Monsters deck?” you asked. Yuugi’s face instantly lit up.
“Yeah! Do you play?” You laughed and pulled out a deck of your own.
“Only all the time! Want to duel?” Yuugi smiled.
“Sure!” It was a pretty long duel and the odds flipped in the other’s favor many times, but in the end, Yuugi ended up winning, though he only had 50 life points left. “That was a close game, F/n-chan. You’re really good at Duel Monsters.” You laughed and shuffled your deck.
“Thank you, Yuugi-kun. You’re probably one of the best I’ve dueled. Usually only my (sibling/cousin/friend) can beat me.” Yuugi rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly at the praise.
“I can see why. You’re trap and spell card combos are really strong.” You smiled.
“I have my (sibling/cousin/friend) to thank for that. He/she taught me everything I know about Duel Monsters. In fact, (card name) is his/her favorite card. He/she gave it to me along with my first starter pack. It’s always given me good luck and has been in my deck ever since.” Yuugi smiled at that. The bell rang, signaling the end of the school day.
“Hey, F/n-chan, my friend Anzu is a really big fan of yours. She’d really like to meet you.” You smiled.
“Lead the way.” He smiled and you followed him to the hallway where Jounouchi, Honda, and Anzu were waiting for him.
“Hey, guys,” he called out.
“Yuugi!” Jounouchi yelled, “Tell Honda that-” He cut himself off when he noticed you. “Oh, uh, hey.” You laughed a bit.
“This is F/n L/n. She’s in my math class and study hall. F/n-chan, these are my friends Jounouchi, Honda, and Anzu.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” you said with a polite bow. Anzu cautiously walked up to you.
“H-hello, I’m a really big fan…” You smiled.
“So I’ve been told.”
“I absolutely love your latest song. It’s really original and has a really strong message, unlike so many other pop songs.” You blushed a bit at the praise.
“Thank you. That really means a lot.”
“We’re all going to get burgers,” Honda said, “Would you like to join us?” You smiled and nodded.
“I’d love to.”
You quickly bonded with the strange, yet funny group. After only a few months, the five of you were inseparable. You were close with everyone, but you found yourself closest with Yuugi. There was just something about his innocent and kind persona that just made you gravitate to him. He was always able to comfort you and you always felt comfortable around him. Plus, he was just so damn cute! Seriously, he was like a fucking baby panda!
Yuugi had developed a small crush on you over time, which had quickly grew into something bigger. He admired your determination. You always made sure everyone was heard and were never intimidated by others (or if you were, you didn’t show it). Plus, you loved Duel Monsters! He loved how excited you would get when talking about the card game. The two of you would often show and trade cards. You even shared with him a few of your dueling strategies. He felt honored that you trusted him with those secrets.
It was a frigid Saturday morning in December. Yuugi was waiting for you to arrive so the two of you could do what you always do on Saturday, play games and talk about random things, while eating food. Sometimes you watched anime. It was something he looked forward to every week. But this Saturday was going to be different. This Saturday he was going to tell you how he felt…. So needless to say, he was a nervous wreck. He leaned against the counter of the game shop deep in thought, weighing the pros and cons of confessing.
‘Let’s see, pros first. If she feels the same that would be amazing and we’d go on a date, which would also be amazing, and I would basically be in heaven.
Cons: She could not feel the same, both of us would feel awkward, and our friendship would be ruined.’ He froze at that thought. His friends were the most important things in the world to him (along with his grandfather of course) and you were probably his closest friend. The very idea of your ruined friendship nearly made him feel ill. The chance to date you wasn’t worth the risk of you never talking to him again.
“Hey, Yuugi-kun!” Your voice snapped him out of his thoughts as you entered the shop. The freezing wind bit at him as you closed the door.
“F/n-chan!”
“Sorry I took so long. The cold slowed me down.”
“That’s okay,” he said with that adorable smile of his. “Come on, let’s go upstairs!” You followed this short sophomore upstairs, smiling at his excitement. After you took your shoes off, you followed Yuugi to his room. He turned to face you with a grin. “So what do you want to do?” You pulled out your deck with a grin.
“Duel.” He grinned and got his deck. The two of you spent the next few hours playing duel after duel sat on his bed. You won and lost some, but neither of you were really keeping score. After what was probably your 30th game, you sighed and stretched. “You know, I really love doing this.” Yuugi set his cards down.
“What do you mean?”
“This, playing games with you every Saturday. I never got to do this back in (home country).”
“Why not?” You sighed.
“I was always so busy with my albums and campaign work. I didn’t even have time to duel (sibling/cousin/friend’s name). When I wasn’t working, I was at school. But the whole ‘being a star’ thing didn’t give me a whole lot of privacy. Eventually, it all just got to be too much and I transferred here. Then I met you and the gang and, well… it’s just nice to finally get to be a normal teenager again.” You smiled. “Thank you, Yuugi.”
“For what?” he asked, surprised.
“For playing with me and being an awesome friend.” You laughed at yourself, “As cheesy as that sounds, I mean it.” Yuugi laughed a bit too, though he fought down a blush.
“You’ve been a great friend too, F/n-chan.” You smiled at the blushing boy.
“You know, I really admire you, Yuugi.” His eyes widened in surprise and you laughed. “You’re always so kind to people and want to help them, even if they’ve wronged you in the past. Some may say you’re too forgiving, but I think there isn’t enough kindness in the world. There’s just so much hate and malice, it’s nice to meet someone like you. You give me hope, Yuugi, and for that, I thank you.”
The poor boy was so taken aback by your speech and flustered, he couldn’t get a single word out. His face was bright pink as he rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. You smiled and pulled him into a hug. He hugged you back, enjoying the feeling of your embrace. Maybe he should confess. If she admired him maybe she… No, he better not push his luck. He should just be thankful you saw him like this.
You pulled away to look at his face. Your eyes searched his for a moment before you smiled and cupped his face with your hand. His blush darkened and his eyes widened even more, if that was even possible. You couldn’t help but chuckle before pulling him in for a short, sweet kiss. You pulled away with a grin while he stared at you, utterly floored.
“F-F/n-chan?” he squeaked. You laughed and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
“You’re not very good at hiding your feelings, koibito.” (Sweetheart) He gave you a bashful smile.
“S-so… does that mean you, um…” You laughed and nuzzled his nose with yours.
“Yes, I like you too.” He smiled and hugged you close. You hugged him back, resting your chin atop his head with a smile. Transferring to Domino High was probably one of the best decisions you had ever made.*Throws adorable Yuugi fluff at you* Yami Bakura is up next. Oh, and high five to anyone who got that YGOTAS reference *wink wink*
