Burning. That's the only word Scarlett could use to describe how her body felt at this moment, that it was burning. She wasn't alarmed by it though because it happened so often. She also felt dizzy as well as if there was something protruding or trying to break out of her skin. She took off her shirt and stood in front of the mirror in just her underwear. She turned around to try and pinpoint which exact bit of her body was burning and being stabbed. That's when she saw it. In her lower back there were two lumps bulging through her skin, when she touched them, they started to grow even more. She didn't know what to do.
Scarlett quickly turned to find an oversized jumper of her boyfriends to wear so that the bumps could be hidden. She spent most of the day in her room, avoiding everyone so they wouldn't find out. In the time she was hiding she researched all the possibilities that the lumps could be. Everything was fine until she saw the words tumour and cancer. But she ignored it. However, a sudden flashback came to memory, she was bitten a few weeks ago by an orange stripy lizard. But the lizard wasn't poisonous. Broad headed Skinks aren't poisonous, but it could be a delayed reaction.
In the middle of the night, she woke up to her inner mind screaming in pain. Scarlett then felt the sudden flaming burst in the positions of where the lumps were on her back. She ripped her shirt off and looked in the mirror to find the lumps glowing orange and red. "this must be a dream, this has to be a dream, this can't possibly be real" she repeated. She collapsed on the floor in agonising pain and felt her skin being torn by something sharp. Scarlett screamed silently as she didn't want anyone to hear her in pain because all they'll do is worry. After what felt like forever, the pain had stopped and her back felt numb. She picked herself up and brushed the hair out of her face, but whilst doing so she felt something sharp in her mouth. Again, she checked the mirror and couldn't believe what she saw. She had fangs coming out of her gums and most importantly had bright, glowing orange dragon wings.
"How can this be possible; I need to wake up it's all too much now" Scarlett said whilst pacing. She put her hand to her wing to find that they were hot, she turned around to find she also had an orange scaly tail. There's only one thing that she could think at this point, 'School is going to be fun'.
The morning hit, Scarlett had planned what time to wake up so she wouldn't see any of her family. "I wonder whether these things can fold up?" she asked herself as she proceeded to try and fold her wings enough to be able to put a hoodie over them. "Now what do I do about the tail?", she picked up her tail and wrapped it around her waist as some sort of belt. She walked to the mirror to see whether her new features were obvious, the only thing left was her fangs. "oh well, I'll just pretend that I bought some fake fangs and they won't come off, perfect idea". She put on her school bag and walked to school, the main thing on her mind wasn't whether she was going to be bullied if people found out, she was thinking about whether she could fly with her new wings. Once she got to school, she raced down the corridor to her first lesson about 45 mins early, however she knew that the door would be open and no one else would be stupid enough to arrive that early anyways. As soon as she put her bag on the table, her wings popped out of position and obvious bulges in her hoodie were visible to anyone who may see her. So, for the safety of herself, she kept the bag on all day and just carried around all the things she needed so she didn't have to remove the bag to get them.
Her friends asked if she was ok and she replied with her go too answer of "I'm fine", it's not like she's going to announce to everyone that she's uncontrollably transitioning into a dragon. The school day was hell as per usual, but no one really mentioned her fangs, or the fact her eyes were transitioning from blue to a glowing green colour in the middle of lesson. It was getting the point where she wouldn't be able to hide it much longer and it was getting out of hand. She rushed home, hoping she'd get there before everyone else. She had never run so quick to avoid anyone before as she never had a reason too. She made it to her room and took off her hoodie to where her wings popped out into full formation. But what she didn't know was that her younger brother had walked in behind her and saw her wings, tail and glowing green eye. When she turned around, that's when she realised he'd seen what she has become and there was no way of hiding that. She was terrified on what he might say. He just stood in awe and said "you've turned into Charizard! My favourite Pokemon!" and all she could do was laugh.
