Rob's P.O.V.
It was no secret to me, nor anyone else in fact, that Preston hated spiders. Mitch absolutely despised the hairy, ugly, eight-legged creatures as well and although Lachlan didn't think much of them either, he was Australian, he had to deal with them all the time.
On an almost-full Pack visit to Australia, everyone was there other than Vikk because he had some convention somewhere in Europe, everything kind of turned to crap when it came to the fear of spiders and I blamed mother nature. You don't scare my boyfriend or Jerome's boyfriend without facing our wrath and although that person didn't exist, goddamn we would try our hardest to make sure it would never happen again.
Mine and Preston's flight from Canada landed at the Brisbane airport roughly an hour and a half after Mitch and Jerome's, and Lachlan was about 15 minutes away when we got through baggage claim. Preston was barely standing, so exhausted that he was stumbling with every steps, but we met up with the other two before he fell over.
Mitch looked much the same, curled up on a seat with his head resting on Jerome's shoulder, blinking slowly with his head jerking to stop himself from falling asleep.
"Hey Jerome." I sighed in relief as I collapsed into a seat beside him, my body aching. "Howzit been."
"Alright." He mumbled, running at hand through Mitch's hair. "We're both exhausted, I just wanna get into bed to be honest."
"Same." Preston groaned, kicking his feet up. "How far away's Lachlan?"
"Like 10 minutes or something."
"Good."
--------------------------------------------------------
It was no surprise to me that by the end of the half hour journey back to Lachlan's place, Lachlan and I were the only two awake. All three boys in the backseat were fast asleep, exhaustion catching up to them fast. I was feeling alright, a little tired, but I didn't doubt it would drag me down in the next few hours.
I took the opportunity to catch up with Lachlan, chatting quietly with him as I hadn't seen him in over 6 months. It might not be a long time for some of the other members but I was used to him coming to stay with me or me going to stay with him at least 3 or 4 times a year, but I had been in Texas on and off for almost a year, so there hadn't been much time. Plus, Lachlan was busy with conventions and actually getting his life sorted.
"How's it been?" I asked quietly, constantly aware of the three sleeping in the back.
"Good." He whispered back as we pulled into the driveway. "It's been busy, but it's been good." He looked into the back. "So... how are we gonna get them inside?"
In the end I carried my boyfriend into the house and Lachlan woke the other two for just a moment to get them inside, taking as little time as possible to get them upstairs so they'd quickly get back to sleep. Preston never stirred and although Mitch and Jerome complained, once they were in bed they were completely fine.
Lachlan collapsed onto the couch, sighing happily.
"As much as I'm glad to be back together, I forgot how much of an ass jetlag is." I shrugged, kicking my feet up. The fatigue was beginning to hit me and I really just wanted to go to bed, but I didn't want to leave him alone while the rest of us slept.
But, it all eventually hit me at once. About an hour after we arrived home my head started to nod and finally Lachlan just ushered me up the stairs, saying he didn't mind being up alone and that he could just edit. I just agreed, too tired to argue.
"Night Rob." He whispered as I fell into bed beside my fast asleep boyfriend, who hadn't shifted an inch. "Sleep well."
I only smiled, glad to be off my feet and in bed. God, it felt good to get some rest.
--------------------------------------------------------
Mitch and Preston must have been the only ones up the next morning, Lachlan, Jerome and myself having slept in quite a bit longer. I discovered this only after there was a chorus of air piercing shrieks from downstairs and the sounds of a slamming down and someone falling over, startling me from my sleep.
I got out into the hall just as Jerome exited his room, sharing a look of shock and confusion. There was no movement from Lachlan's room, he was probably in such a deep sleep that he didn't hear it and to be fair, he could probably sleep through a party in the next room.
"The hell was that?" Jerome asked, taking a step towards the stairs.
"No idea." I hurried down the stairs, the noises had stopped now and I was worried that something had happened, maybe someone had fallen off something?
As it turned out, it wasn't that. Mitch and Preston were actually tightly holding the door to the kitchen closed while whispering and attempting to push each other over, pouting and playfully fighting.
"Oi!" I said loudly, startling them both. "What's goin' on? You woke us both up."
Mitch gave me an apologetic look but Preston simply clung to the door, both of them clearly not wanting to let something out.
"There's a spider." My boyfriend said simply. "Sitting on top of the toaster. I just wanted food and it's huge! Can you get rid of it pleassseeeee babe?"
I sighed and buried my head in my hands for a moment, thinking. I didn't mind spiders but this was Australia, it could be poisonous and given Preston's description of huge, considering he didn't have a tendency to overexaggerate, I was worried.
"What do you think it is?" I finally asked, unlatching Preston's hand from the doorknob.
"No idea. It's really big though and what did you say Mitch.. a... a huntsman? It might be that." I backed away from the door real fast.
"Okay nope, nope, nope, nopeity nope, if you're saying it's one of them I'm going to get Lachlan and I'm not getting near it with a ten foot pole, be right back."
I ran right back up the stairs because although I knew they could be wrong, Mitch knew what a huntsman was and if he was basing it off size then... no. They were technically harmless but it's a huge fucking spider! I wasn't about to touch it.
Lachlan looked up groggily as I opened his door and waltzed into his room, pulling his curtains open.
"Wha'?" He mumbled, glaring at me.
"Mitch said there's a huntsman in the kitchen and no one wants to touch it. It's your problem now, but they kinda want food."
He sighed and rolled off his bed with a thud, stomping down the stairs impatiently.
"You woke me up for this?" He glared at the others, still gathered around the door. "I could just let you starve for a couple of hours. What's to bet it's a tiny thing."
Mitch shrugged.
"It wasn't, it was bigger than my hand." Lachlan only sighed again and barged past them into the kitchen, looking around for a moment before spotting it.
As it turned out, Preston definitely wasn't exaggerating- it was huge. It was also bigger than Mitch's hand, so he wasn't kidding either, and it was quiet clearly a huntsman, harmless but scary as fuck.
Lachlan took one look at it, pretended to gag and then unplugged the toaster it was sitting on, picking it up and dumping it- the spider, not the toaster, out the window.
"Bye bye fucker!" He yelled over it, the rest of us watching from the doorway as it scrambled away into some bushes. "Now was that hard?"
"Yes." Preston said, making grabby hands for the toaster. "Thank you!"
Lachlan sighed, handed him the toaster and rolled his eyes as he stalked past me, back up the stairs to bed.
"Sleep well Lachy!" I yelled as Mitch popped some bread in the toaster.
"Yeah, yeah!" He yelled back but I knew he was only pretending.
He wouldn't actually get mad at us for something like that.
