"Schneider, I'm going to the Alvarez's!" Aria yelled, heading for the door
"Wait! Did you take your medicine?" He asked, coming into the room
"Yes, I promise! Now can I go?" The big-haired girls asked, anxious to see her friends.
Schneider—landlord of the very apartment complex he lived in—never imagined he might be raising a child, when he himself still sometimes felt like a child.
But life changes, and when you agree to be your best friend's surprise child's godfather, it's a bigger commitment than just the title.
At the birth of Aria Gray—a very early birth, as her mother never really got of the drugs she promised she would—only the biological father and his best friend were excited to bring a beautiful new soul into the world.
Just four years into the young girl's life, her Father, an angel on Earth, suffered a brain injury in a drunk driving accident and the young Aria was left to watch his body slowly deteriorate, until he was to be placed six feet under.
Schneider stood by the family's side through it all, using his fortune to only provide the best—money Aria had never imagined possible. Aria only secretly hoped the mother her father used to describe to her would come back and hold her in her arms—though, she never did.
The last conversation Schneider had with his best friend was that of a single promise—fulfill his duty as Aria's godfather, never let her mother crawl her way back into her life, and take it all one day at a time.
Aria didn't remember much from those early years, only the images of her father in the hospital—though she'd rather remember more of the happy ones
The memories of her father came from Schneider's stories. At times, Aria, so used to her life with Schneider, struggled to grasp the truths of her past.
"Yeah, yeah." Schneider nodded, shooing the girl off
Aria slipped on her converse and ran out the door, slamming it behind her.
She ran down the hallways, almost bumping into Penelope, before quickly noticing how many bags she was carrying, "Hey, Ms. Alvarez. Do you need some help with those bags?"
"Yes, please." Penelope sighed, handing Aria a few to carry inside the apartment
"Also, can you please try and get Alex off his computer? Elena said he's been on it all day." The mother continued, as she unlocked the door, "Alex. Alex, help."
Alex Alvarez—Aria's best friend, partly because he was one of the only other kids in the building—just sat there and stared at his screen
