-Angela's Medbay-
"Oh Gabriel! What happened to him?" Angela got up from her chair and raced over to where Jack was leading Gabe.
Gabe was now sobbing uncontrollably, covering his face as the tears rolled down. His head was pounding and the wound was still bleeding.
"He slipped in the shower, I don't know anything else. I'll try to ask him about it." Jack sighed, making Gabe sit down on the bed so Angela could wrap his head when bandages. He went to leave when Gabe grabbed his hand.
"D-Don't leave me...." Gabe said, looking up at Jack with tear filled eyes.
At was at that moment that Jack decided that this was more than just a slip in the shower. This was more serious than he thought. "Alright, I'll be right here. Try to relax and think about better things."
Gabe nodded slowly and took a deep breath, holding Jack's hand tightly in his. Angela brought over the bandages and began wrapping his head. Once she was done, she gave him pain medication and left him alone with Jack.
"So.... what happened in there?"
Gabe sniffed, wiping his face with his fingers. "I was just.... taking a shower when I was suddenly transported somewhere else for a moment... I think it was a nightmare.."
Jack leaned forward, intrigued by this information. "Go on."
"There..... There was fire everywhere and... I was standing there... but I wasn't myself..." Gabe choked on his words when he started to cry again.
Jack got up and sat down on the bed next to him, holding him close. "What were you?"
"A monster.... a disgusting, horrifying monster...." Gabe took in a shaky breath and tightened his grip around Jack's hand. "I-I was standing there.... when I saw you kneeling on the ground...."
Jack sighed, ignoring the fear rising in his chest. He forced himself to be calm.
"You... you were crying and asking why I did it..." Gabe frowned, pressing his head against Jack's shoulder. Now he was crying angry tears. "I didn't know what you meant.... then you looked at me and asked me.... what I had become.... that's when I slipped and fell...."
Jack pulled Gabe close enough so he could whisper in his ear. "Listen to me... these nightmares are not real. I'm right here and I'm fine, we're both fine. You aren't a monster and you will never be. You've conquered that fear.." he finished, kissing him on the cheek and hugging him.
"Oh Jack, you're such a sap...." Gabe chuckled, hugging Jack closely.
"I know.." Jack sighed, closing his eyes. "I know...."
-Later on-
"Hey, you want to go to the park? It's a nice day out and it'll feel good to get some sun on your skin." Jack asked as he looked up from a paper he was reading.
Gabe was dressed in his usual attire of a dark grey sweatshirt and black sweatpants. "Okay, but what about this?" He pointed to the bandage around his head.
"Just cover it with your beanie, you'll look fine." Jack chuckled, tossing him his black beanie.
Gabe caught the beanie and sighed, pulling it onto his head. "Let's go then, I'm tired of sitting in here." He stood up, stretching his arms and cracking his knuckles.
Jack put the paper down and stood up, taking Gabe by the hand and pulling him out the door of their room. They walked to the main exit, pushing open the doors and entering the outside world.
They strolled down the sidewalk, their hands entwined as they swung gently. Soon, they reached the park and continued to walk down the sidewalk until they found a bench to sit on.
"You were right, I needed some fresh air and sunlight..." Gabe smiled, taking in a breath of fresh air.
Jack smiled and leaned against his shoulder, feeling the warm sun on his face. "Yeah, you know what I needed?"
Gabe turned and looked at Jack with a smirk. "What?"
"You." Jack grinned and giggled, nudging Gabe with his elbow in the side.
"You're so adorable..." Gabe laughed, leaning in for a kiss.
"Take the shot...."
Jack was about to accept his kiss when he spotted a bullet flying towards them. The moment went from pure bliss to absolute terror as the bullet punctured Gabe's chest cleanly.
Gabe froze, his eyes widening as he looked down at his chest. A gurgling noise came from his throat as blood began trickling out of his mouth. His sweatshirt had a red spot that was slowly growing as he clutched it with his hand. He coughed once, falling over onto the cement.
"GABE!!!" Jack screamed, getting down on his knees and holding Gabe in his lap. He held his head up and desperately tried to stop the bleeding. He felt tears burning his eyes as he stared down at Gabe's form as he took short, ragged breaths.
"W-What....." Gabe choked, reaching a trembling hand up to Jack's face.
Jack was frozen in fear, his eyes wide and filled with tears. "No! Y-You're not dying on me! Not now!" He sobbed, holding him close to his chest.
"Aww, what a tender scene..." a sweet voice spoke next to them.
Jack looked up and frowned, clenching his teeth in a growl. "You..... YOU DID THIS DIDN'T YOU?!" He snarled, wanting to strangle Widowmaker right there.
"Why, of course I did... I was just following orders..." Widowmaker chuckled, propping her sniper rifle up on her shoulder.
"You people are sick and twisted! Why would you do this?!" Jack sobbed in anger, clutching Gabe's sweatshirt. "You know this isn't right! It isn't fair..."
Widowmaker shrugged and cackled. "C'est la vie...." she snatched Jack by the collar, yanking him close to her. "This is for your own good..." she hissed, throwing him aside.
Jack tumbled in the dirt, pushing himself up and watching helplessly as a Talon dropship came down towards them. Widowmaker glared at him and smiled a rare smile as she lifted Gabe off the ground and took him into the dropship.
As the dropship flew away, Jack went to his knees and sobbed uncontrollably. "Why did this have to happen.... Why?!" He cried, tears flowing down his face as he gazed at the bloodstained sidewalk where he last held Gabe in his arms.
