Japan is known as a marine country. No wonder, there are so many myths in this country that are associated with the sea and ships. One of them is about Funayurei, a phantom sailor who tried to spread terror and fear to the local fishermen. Not only that, Funayurei also tries to make those fishermen to accompany her, by sinking their ships.
Funayurei supposedly rumored as the figure of a woman who was raped by a group of pirates, and later drowned alive to the sea. The angry spirit of the woman then demanded revenge and she only attacks a ship in which there is no woman and kid in it. The ghost is said to have appeared in the year 1969 in Kanagawa prefecture. In the year 1954 a ship called the Toya Maru that was mysteriously disappeared from the ocean is rumored to be drowned by a Funayurei.
