It turned out, though it wasn't surprising, that getting Hinata and Kageyama off their seats and out of the bus was incredibly difficult to do. Both were still half-asleep, tripping over their own feet as they went down the bus steps, groaning and mumbling about how they wanted five more minutes. I didn't dare try and wipe off the drool that Hinata had on the side of his face or even try and fix Kageyama's hair. Instead, I chose to hop off to the side as everyone started walking off towards to the school, reading my book from the blood drive to avoid any grumpy members. By the time we reached the teacher's lounge, some of Takeda Sensei's colleagues were already at the doorway, waving their hands as they congratulated him and the team on how we'd done. Suga, Shimizu, Sawamura and I bowed to thank them, and in the back of my head, I wondered how the news had traveled to Karasuno so quickly. Two seconds later, I could hear the sound of the game being reported from the small, black box just a few feet into the room and Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Hinata burst inside to watch the screen.
"Hey—!" I jumped out of the way before I was trampled, using Suga's arm as a lever to keep my balance. The boys didn't even look back, they were more focused on the bitter fact that only Oikawa was on TV and not them. Tanaka flicked the TV off and Nishinoya stuck his tongue out with Hinata.
I made a face as Toto was interviewed.
"I hope they give it all they got," he said to camera, flashing his smile, "and fall to pieces."
The universal gasp that everyone let out made me shiver. He actually said that, live, on national television. I could feel the glare that Toto was sending directed to me and I started rubbing my arms nervously.
Suga opened his mouth, shocked. "Did he just—"
Sawamura nodded slowly.
"HE DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!" Tanaka shouted, rolling his sleeve up to fight the TV, I guessed. Asahi looked pale and Kageyama frowned. Coach, luckily, took this moment to herd us all into the gym and start the meeting. We easily fell back into the floor, looking up at him as he pulled out the board to explain the plays for the next game. I sat between Tsukishima and Kageyama, stretching out my legs and using my arms to lean back. Tsukishima copied my position, and when I saw how much longer his legs were compared to mine, I scowled and he snickered. To my right, Kageyama did the same and my scowl grew.
"Shorty," Tsuki mumbled, and for once in a long time, Kageyama snickered in agreement. I closed my eyes and brought my legs back in, crossing them as I jabbed both of them in their sides. It wasn't until I heard both of them groan in pain that I smiled.
"Alrigth!" Ukai slapped his hand on the board and we all looked forward. "One of the main changes we will be making will be that Hinata will be dividing the labor of middle-blocker with Tsukishima."
Hinata's energy instantly dropped at the news. Even Tsukishima didn't seem to like the idea, but as they quickly ran through the new formations, it seemed like they understood Coach's reasoning, or at least, I hoped they did. By the time we were done, there weren't any complaints. It also could have been because of how tired everyone was, but less arguments were also always better.
"I also need someone, preferably someone who knows how to analyze plays, to watch the Aoba Johsai game to study Oikawa's serves," Coach announced as everyone as heading out, waving around a CD. Seeing as how everyone was so tired, I raised my hand to volunteer. It wouldn't be anything new, and I'm sure that if someone else decided to do it, the lack of sleep would definitely be a risk to their performance tomorrow.
Smirking, Ukai whipped the CD case at me without warning and I naturally flinched, raising my hands up to my face so I wouldn't get hit in the eye. Kageyama managed to snag it out of the air before it could hit the ground and I sighed in relief, ignoring Ukai's laughter as he slapped Takeda Sensei's back, finding how scared I was incredibly hilarious. I narrowed my eyes and spun around to leave the gym, taking the CD from Kageyama on my way out.
