That night, Kelsey tried to get a hold of Ryan, but he ignored every text and call.

He wasn't the only one, however, as Chad stumbled into his house that night, ignoring his mother's 'hello' and locking himself in his room.

His phone went off obnoxiously with Troy and Jason wondering what had happened at rehearsal, and Kelsey's texts asking if he was ok, but he ignored every single one.

He slept through his mother knocking at the door asking if he wanted dinner, and nearly slept through his alarm the next morning, making him miss homeroom, and the risk of being forced to talk to Ryan.

He would have missed school altogether, but he didn't want to worry his mother. It was just her and him now, and she didn't need the extra stress.

That morning, Kelsey ran up to Ryan at his locker, looking like Sharpay did when she didn't get her way. Ryan had tried to skip school that day, but his father wasn't having it and his mother was sleeping in.

"Ryan Ezra Evans, what the hell did you do?" Kelsey started with rage, but quickly stopped herself when she saw how beaten up Ryan looked.

She sighed, "Ryan, buddy, what happened?" When he didn't answer, simply staring into his open locker, she continued, "He kissed you, and you ran?" Chad hadn't actually told her about the running part, but knowing Ryan, that's what happened.

"He told you?" Ryan muttered, ignoring her question and not bothering to turn from his locker to look at her.

The dark bags under his eyes along with his pale skin gave him an 'undead' look that would have had Sharpay worried on most days, but alas, she was too busy in her pre-show bubble to worry about her twin.

"He caught me before I left with Martha yesterday, to give me these." He slowly turned to see her handing him the bag and hat, neatly placed on top of each other. Instead of making a move to grab them, he simply stared.

"I got scared, Kels." Ryan admitted, blinking at the shiny accessories in front of him.

Kelsey sighed, retracting her arms and hugging the objects close to her as she rocked on her heels. "I know, Ry but- you should have seen him."

Ryan laughed bitterly,

"What, and listened to him laugh at me for being stupid enough to almost fall for his little act? No thanks."

"No." Kelsey practically growled, getting angry again. Why couldn't her best friend just realize how fucking love able he was already? "You should have seen how hurt he was that you'd pulled away."

Ryan laughed again, "What, his ego a little dented?" Kelsey rolled her eyes.

"No, idiot, he actually fucking likes you." Finally, Ryan slowly looked up to meet her gaze.

"Not funny."

"Not joking."

Kelsey looked around at the students now running to their first class, which would start soon. They had managed to talk through the last 15 minutes of homeroom.

"Look, Ryan, just- talk to him, ok?"

Ryan scoffed, "Because that went so well last time?"

Kelsey rolled her eyes again. "I mean actually talk to him this time. About feelings. And uh- take your damn stuff." The girl shoved Ryan's belongings into his arms before leaving with a huff.

Ryan shoved them into his locker and quickly slammed the door shut after that. Ignoring the looks he got from passerby, he made his way to his first class, deciding to take his short friend's advice.

Ryan spent the rest of the day looking for Chad, who spent it avoiding the blond. Troy and Jason, however, were harder to run from.

He replied to their questions of 'what happened?' 'What's wrong?' And 'why didn't you answer?' With jumbled words saying something about not feeling good and it not being their business - which earned him some hurt looks, as they were only trying to be supportive -, but they eventually left him alone.

Ryan could have texted Chad, but this seemed too serious to talk about over a keyboard, and he highly doubted that the boy would answer, so he set on talking to him the next day, Wednesday.

The first showing of the play was on Thursday, and though the rest of the cast was more than ready - due to Sharpay insisting on meeting almost every weekend - both of the boys knew that they couldn't successfully sell their
characters bromance with their own friendship at the state it was in now.

Chad forced himself out of bed on Wednesday, not looking forward to the last minute rehearsal for play that was taking place after school.

He really did enjoy this play, and was excited to finally see all of their hard work come together, but he was not looking forward to faking a smile when he felt like dying on the inside, nor having to share a stage with Ryan for approximately ten hours the next three days.

Chad's classes went achingly slow that day, he had skipped homeroom again to avoid Ryan, though he was only delaying the inevitable, at least he would be too busy practicing this afternoon (thanks to Sharpay being a perfectionist by heart) for Ryan to corner him and demand they talk about their failed kiss.

Lunch was the real trouble, he had managed to avoid Ryan yesterday by hiding out on the track field, but today it was raining and though Chad was desperate, he still did not want to ruin his hair (priorities).

So he was forced to ask for help.

He caught Troy, Zeke, and Jason right before they walked into the lunch room. They looked surprised to see him, as Ryan wasn't the only one he had been avoiding since Monday.

Before they could bombard him with questions, he blurted out, "I need your help." With a single glance, the boys silently decided to leave the interrogation for later. Now was reserved for helping their friend.

  "What's up buddy?"
