Chapter 13 - A gift from dad

Katelyn's POV

They had only travelled a few metres from the cyclopse den but Katelyn's feet were dragging. She had only had a couple minutes shut eye before the attack. Percy looked worse than her but he walked behind hand in hand with Annabeth giving him strength. This was when Katelyn tripped over something in her path. "Owww." She complained rubbing her elbow. Percy let out a massive laugh uncontrollably behind her and she frowned. "Not funny Jackson!" Katelyn shouted. Annabeth was behind Katelyn leaving Percy to laugh alone.

"Are you okay?" Annabeth asked.

"Yeah I'm fine." Katelyn answered. Then Annabeth pulled on the metal rod or whatever it was. It revealed a massive trident to big for Katelyn or even Percy. Percy stopped laughing and ran to Annabeth, attached to the trident was a tag with writing on. It read:
Dear Katelyn,
I know your brother got you a sword but since I gave him Riptide I thought it would only be fair if I got a weapon that only responded to you crafted by the cyclopse's. Please use this wisely and it is magically charmed like Percy's it will always come back to you and if you push the button it will become a MP3 player. Enjoy!

Katelyn didn't know what to say she looked up at Annabeth who had just read the note out. She handed Katelyn the trident. As soon as it hit her hand it responded it started to shrink to her size, it fitted to her hand perfectly and it became balanced in her hand. It was glowing a light blue light and that was when Katelyn felt an intense burning in her fore arm. She dropped the trident which stopped glowing and twisted her wrist around. On the inside of her arm now tattooed in black was a trident in a circle. Katelyn rubbed it but it was clear it was staying there. The burning subsided but now she was left with a permanent tattoo. She lifted the trident which started to glow the light blue again and she pressed the button. Just like her dad had said it shrunk into a mp3 player that was long and narrow like the stick of the trident. She popped it in her pocket. "Can we set up camp I'm tired." Katelyn said. Percy looked disappointed which was understandable to Katelyn since he had just givven her a weapon but Katelyn was way too tired to care. She gave Percy a meaningful look and then they followed Annabeth into a wooded area for camp.

They set up camp around a small lake which was surrounded by trees which concealed them. Katelyn lay her bag on the ground and used it as a pillow. She lay by the lake, water always made her feel safe. She examined the mark on her arm. "Gee thanks dad." She whispered.

"Katelyn get some rest Annabeth has first watch." Percy shouted over. Katelyn lowered her arm and nodded. She curled into a ball and drifted asleep.

"Katelyn.." She was surrounded by darkness but she felt like she was floating. Then she saw some fishes swim past and she realised she was underwater... and breathing perfectly fine!

"Where am I?" Katelyn asked.

"You're dreaming, I interupted." It suddenly became lighter and the figure became clear. It was a middle aged man, he held a trident, he wore a hwiian shirt and shorts and had short black hair. The man looked familiar, he actually had a striking ressemblance to her. And then Katelyn realised.

"Dad?"

"Yes."

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to talk. I trust you like the new weapon I gave you?"

"Well yeah everything except this tattoo on my arm." Katelyn held the mark up to her dad and he let out a soft laugh.

"Its so everyone knows you're mine."

"What about Percy?"

"He doesn't need any markings everyone knows Percy." Katelyn frowned.

"Unlike me. I'm just some little orphan, right?"

"You are not some little orphan you are my daughter and I am always watching over you." He waved his arm which revealed her and Percy sleeping and Annabeth propped against a tree keeping watch. Katelyn looked peaceful in her sleep. "You see, you are not some little orphan. " Katelyn examined her fathers trident it looked a lot like Katelyn's only his looked like if you touched it you'd burst into flames or a waterfall or whatever. "Did you keep your promise?" Katelyn looked her father in his eyes.

"Of cause I did I gave you my word, your mother is safe." The dream became fuzzy. "I have to go soon Zeus can tell I'm comunicating to you, remember that The Dragon King is a water creature sure it can leave but if you fight it will most likely retreat to the sea." Her dad's voice started to become distent. "Remember the sea Katelyn! It gives you strength but also your enemy! Remember!" The scence shifted. Katelyn was back at Camp Half-blood she was in her cabin on her bed. There was a young boy with tinted chocolate hair sitting across from her. "Nico?" He looked up but looked right through Katelyn. "Katelyn I don't know if you're here but the ring. If you ever need or want to talk to me just touch the ring." He held his hand up revealing the exact same ring that was on Katelyn's finger. And then Katelyn snapped awake.

Katelyn's breath was fast. The sun looked like it had just risen. Annabeth had fallen asleep. A fire was smouldering in the middle of them. Crack. Katelyn shot up her mp3 player in her hand. "Hey, whoah." It was a female voice, one Katelyn had never heard. Annabeth was next up she drew her dagger. "Come out!" Annabeth shouted. The girl stepped out. She was tall, had black hair, wore camouflage clothing and carried a silver bow in her hand and a quiver on her back. But the most striking thing was her blue electric eyes that were even more intense than Annabeth's grey ones. "Thalia? Oh my gods!" Annabeth said hugging her. Katelyn stepped back uneasily. "Umm who's Thalia?" Katelyn asked. Annabeth and Thalia looked over at Katelyn and that's when Katelyn noticed something about Thalia she had a slight glow coming off her skin, she was pretty sure Percy had said something about this girl but what was it... That's it she's immortal.
